If you select nothing in your Browser window and then perform a Media Manage it will manage the whole project.

There are a number of programs that by-pass DVD encryption. A program called Fair Mount is one I have used, for example.

The legal hang up has been that the DMCA makes it illegal to break/bypass/circumevent copy protection. So while Fair Use okay’s one to use the footage under certain conditions there was no legal way to get the footage off the DVD. Not to get on a diatribe here, but the DMCA was the way industry lobbyists did an end run around various copyright laws and rulings.

60p is 60 progressive frames a second. 30p is 30 progressive frames per second. 60i is 60 fields (half-frames) per second. 60p and 60i will share the same motion characteristics.

Launch the XDCAM Xfer software, go to Preferences, then Import and you set your destination there.

Just as an aside I noticed the new Mac Pro is only mentioned on Apple’s Mac Pro page. It isn’t mentioned on Apple’s main page nor is it mentioned on the “Mac” page.

Just going by the specs page it looks like ATi-only for GFX cards which means no support for Avid or Premiere Pro. This plus things like no USB 3.0 means I’ll either pick up a previous gen machine or wait until the next upgrade cycle when it comes time to retire my first gen Mac Pro.

-1 is really loud, IMO. By comparison most broadcast work I’m involved with doesn’t allow peak levels above -12 or -10.

FCP gives you that warning because you are changing the metadata on the QT file itself so the change impacts every project using that file and not just the current project you are working with.
