  • How to Log and Transfer (SONY EX1) to External Hard Drive?

Posted by Daniel Grixti on July 28, 2010 at 5:00 pm

    Hi there,

I have been given some EX1 footage to use in an edit and have downloaded the Log And Transfer utility from the Sony website.

I have added the folder containing the footage but when I go to add the clips to the queue it seems as if the destination is the hard drive on my laptop. So what I need to know is how to change the destination to my external hard drive so that when I add the clips to the queue the resulting files will be transfered to my external hard drive, ready to be edited in FCP.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Launch the XDCAM Xfer software, go to Preferences, then Import and you set your destination there.

Look in XDCam xfer >preferences>Import and hit the choose button for location

I’m still kind of confused as to how to do this.

I am in Final Cut Pro. I go file > log and transfer > then click the import folder icon.

I can import my EX1 footage but then when I try and add the clips to the queue I am restricted by my hard drive space. This is why I want to send the clips to my external hard drive.

If there is no way to change the destination here then could someone give me a walkthrough on how to use the stand alone application?

No you first install the XDCam packages that allow you to read the card, and the XDCam Xfer software then you go file>import>xdcam transfer.
on some stations it opens in the background and you need to go to the dock to bring it foreground.
Inside the XDCam Xfer software under preferences>Import is where you set the destination drive.

    The software is here
