DVCPro HD is 1280×1080 in NTSC areas and 1440×1080 in PAL areas, IIRC.

Grabbing a clean frame from an interlaced source can be tricky if there is a lot of motion going on so make sure to keep an eye out for interlacing artifacts when making your selections.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but you shouldn’t be mixing the audio using headphones because it will sound very different in headphones than it will when played over speakers.

I’m pretty sure HDCAM can do 1080p24 as well. It just uses the PsF method to store the progressive material in an interlaced stream.

I’m one of 13 editors all sharing media on an xSan and we’ve been working w/XDCAM EX footage for a little over a year now and have not run into the relinking problem you are having. Has your system been exhibiting any other strange behavior? Maybe this is a symptom of a greater problem.

If they are giving you the footage on a drive and not the actual card make sure you get the BPAV folder and all the files and folders inside of it. The folder structure has to be kept in tact in order for the footage to be seen by FCP and/or the transfer software. And if they shot multiple cards each BPAV folder needs to be kept separate. For example, make a folder for Card A and but the BPAV from Card A in that folder then make a folder for Card B and put the BPAV from Card B in that folder etc.,.

Something is wrong w/your system if you are getting crashes like that using XDCAM EX footage. Where I’m at we have about 13 editors and we started using the EX-1 cameras about 18 months ago and we haven’t had any issues like that. We’ve mixed it with HDV, DVCPro HD, Animation (GFX) and ProRes.
