Sony – Ex1, HD
Hi,
Just got an email from a client, apparently they’re getting some footage in from a “Sony – Ex1, HD”, thats all the info they have. I’m doing some research on it now, just thought I’d ask here.Anyone have any experience with this? Does it play nice with FCP? I’m assuming It’ll need to be transferred somehow? Log and transfer? how far above a consumer camera is it?

You’ll need the free Sony Log and Transfer software to Log and Transfer in FCP:
XDCam works quite well with FCP. I recommend working in a ProRes timeline.

If they are giving you the footage on a drive and not the actual card make sure you get the BPAV folder and all the files and folders inside of it. The folder structure has to be kept in tact in order for the footage to be seen by FCP and/or the transfer software. And if they shot multiple cards each BPAV folder needs to be kept separate. For example, make a folder for Card A and but the BPAV from Card A in that folder then make a folder for Card B and put the BPAV from Card B in that folder etc.,.
