To see this on anything other than a computer you’ll have to conform it to SD, HD or digital cinema standards. My suggestion is keep working in a 1920×1080 timeline and drop two black slugs on your highest video tracks to use as a matte to create the aspect ratio you want. The footage can be re-framed as you see fit, the timeline still conforms to industry standards, and it’s very simple to adjust/remove the matte if need be.

Enter a reel number in the Reel Column, then select a group of clips, then right click in the Reel Column and select the reel number from the pop-up menu and it will be applied to all the clips in the group. As far as I know this same process will work for any column in FCP’s Browser.

It could be that MPEG Streamclip is not creating the metadata tags (for lack of a better term) properly when it does the transcode. The AJA Ki Pro has that problem so we have to transcode all our Ki Pro footage same as source before we start working with it.
On a short clip I’d test using FCP or Compressor to create the ProRes file and see if that one can be properly modified.

When you grab multiple files in FCP’s Browser the number displayed will always be one less than the number of items you have selected (notice the plus sign next to the number). For what ever reason FCP reads it as something akin to “Bob and three of his friends are going to the movies” as opposed to “Four friends are going to the movies.” For example, you select 6 clips in the Browser, click and hold on clip ABC to initiate the drag and FCP interrupts it as “The user is grabbing clip ABC plus five other items”.

An alternative to nesting is to use 2 black slugs to create the matte (one for the top of the frame and one for the bottom).

There is and I think that’s what Bret was referring to in his post when he said to isolate the yellow using the 3-way. At the bottom of the 3-way filter there is a section called “limit effect” that is collapsed by default so you need to twirl the triangle down to expose it. There is an eye dropper on the right hand side and you use that to select the color range your want to change (in this case yellow).
If your editor is familiar w/Apple’s Color that would be a better tool for this, IMO. If not, you can probably get by using the 3-way (or stacking multiple instances of the 3-way if one is not enough to get the job done).

I think Rafael is correct. I don’t believe FCP can embed TC in an SDI stream.

As a FCP user I’m not exactly thrilled by the lack of ProApp love, but looking at it from Apple’s perspective it makes sense. How booming is the market for the iDevices? How booming is the market FCP? Now that Apple has secured footholds w/the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad they seem to be swinging resources back around to their computer hardware and software so hopefully that means foundations of the next OS is in a good spot now which means they can start building apps to take advantage of it (like totally re-writing FCP from the ground up). If you are building a sky scrapper you can’t start running the power and plumbing until the foundation is in place.
