I hope you’ll get more answers because I am not familiar with Vegas Movie Studio, but IMHO -5 is not enough. Personally I go between -6 and -12 db. Some pros use -21db camera settings when they shoot.
You can use a limiter but first I’d right-click on the track header and put in a volume envelope. Watch your meters that they don’t go into the red. I think the limiter is to prevent clipping only.
Hopefully some of our audio pros here can add more.

Also many things are easier and faster to do in Vegas than PP such as ripple cuts. You can do that with a few mouse clicks instead of going through a bunch of menus from what I understand.
However my knowledge of PP is sparce, having only worked with PP5 or 6 many years ago before going to Vegas. I started with Vegas 3 (or 4, can’t remember) and never looked back.

A way to do it uning Track Motion is you need to put a “reset” keyframe after each instance so it will reset itself. That’s the reason for track motion. When you set it, it covers the entire track. Split up your black generated media. Set your track motion to what you want. Then at the end of that box, click “restore view” and it will put a keyframe in. Set that to “Hold” until you want to do another. Then it’s just like using it all over again.
I had an issue and a post a while back about this and that’s what Ed told me and it works.

AFAIK There’s different technologies out there. I’m only used to the Sony but my friend’s had Canons for years. Until recently according to my friend the Canon stabilization hasn’t been too good until their recently released new HD camera. According to him it has a mini gyro. Can’t remember the model number though A1 something.
From everything else I’ve heard, Sony probably was the best one available. I’ve never had any problems with Sony’s and that’s the only cameras 1’ve ever owned. starting in August 2002 with a TRS-20, then TRS-30 then the VX2000 and DSR350 and I’ve been extremely happy.

When you choose your template, look to the right. There’s a buton for custom settings. Click that and go to the video tab. that’s where you set/change your 1-pass, 2-pass cbr, vbr and bit rates, etc.

A friend of mine used to send me PAL DVD’s he made. They weren’t region coded but they played fine on my computer. If you’re planning on ripping them and re-encoding them you’re going to get a big loss in quality in my opinion.What I did was to buy one of those portable DVD players at Best Buy. Actually I have 2 here because my wife get’s Chinese VCD’s from here friends and they’ll play them. A Phillips and a Mintek.
Get yourself a analog/digital converter like the Grass Valley ADVC110. Plug the portable into that with the composite cables. Firewire comes out the other end and manually capture the video in Vegas. Now you should have a nice clean AVI file to work with.
Now as far as reigon encoding, I can’t tell you for sure, but I know the VCD’s and DVD’s my wife gets from her friends in China do play. We just plug the portable DVD player into the big screen TV.
If you already have one of those Reigon 2 PAL DVD’s take it with you when you go look for portables. Better to test them in the store than buy it and find out it doesn’t work.

AFAIK none of the Vegas software will capture from USB.Now going the way you mentioned is okay depending on what type of file the Plextor ConvertX will create.

Uesed to be you could encode as flash and You Tube would put it up if it was encoded right. But they recently changed their procedure and everything goes through a re-encode or encode. So flash looks horrible being encoded twice. that’s when I was led to that link myself by another friend. It’s on my favorites list there.
