I need to make a matte to go behind text to help make it stand out and I wonder what the best method in Vegas is for this. I can do it in my sleep in Final Cut Pro but am slowly trying to learn to do all these things in Vegas.
I dragged in a black “solid color” media generator and sized it in the Track Motion window and then made it an overlay in the Compositing mode. And this works but it’s on that track all the way through the timeline from start to end and sometimes I have other text that needs a smaller or larger matte. In FCP you can add a matte above each piece of text and customize the matte to each text. Is there another way I could do this in Vegas?
    Thanks

    a couple of easy solutions:

use the PAN/CROP tool on the individual black matte clip, to resize it, rather than at track level

    or

use the GLOW at track level, in TRACK MOTION, to create a stroke edge for the text. Will default to normal glow but can be made hard-edged.

A way to do it uning Track Motion is you need to put a “reset” keyframe after each instance so it will reset itself. That’s the reason for track motion. When you set it, it covers the entire track. Split up your black generated media. Set your track motion to what you want. Then at the end of that box, click “restore view” and it will put a keyframe in. Set that to “Hold” until you want to do another. Then it’s just like using it all over again.

I had an issue and a post a while back about this and that’s what Ed told me and it works.
