Rendering for MySpace or YouTube
Posted by Ron Black on April 17, 2008 at 8:00 pmYou guys/gals have been great – now here’s another stupid question from a Vegas Pro 8 rookie:
What is the best format to use to render for MySpace video? I have weekly 28:30 programs that as AVI files are about 8gb.

100mb is the max on those sites, I think? I’ve never rendered to that level in Pro before, but what I do is load my AVI into a linear program like Windows Move Maker, and when I save I auto set to 100mb. You might lose a little aspect ratio, though. Test a 30 second clip first.
Hope this helps,

April 17, 2008 at 9:44 pmRender to Flash. Unfortunately Vegas does not do this (yet). You could use a program called Super (free) but I would advise On2 Flash.

April 17, 2008 at 11:06 pmThere is a tutorial on YouTube on just this topic. Basically:
–render to WMV (WIndows Media 9)
–template: 1 mbs
–custom: Best
–audio tab: attributes: 128 KBS
–video tab: frame rage = 30; image size = 320 x 240; video smoothness == 100 (max)
–bit rate tab: click last option, Internet/Lan: 1 M
–project tab: give your settings a name, such as, “YouTube Settings” and under description, type something likes, Best for YouTube; then save. The next time, you only need to select Render as: Windows Media 9, and chose the “YouTube” template (Vegas will default to that unless you do a WMV to a different template in the mean time.)I can’t find the original YouTube tutorial on this, but here’s one that’s similar, though it leaves out a couple of things: https://youtube.com/watch?v=W6LpQ0ZyqgI
Or, if you search on YouTube help, they recommend:
–render to MPEG4 (Divx, Svid)
–640 x 480
–MPT3 audio
–30 fps
Here’s a YouTube tutorial for this method: https://youtube.com/watch?v=I1LuS2n9_c8Several posters in the past swear by the first system/version.
Finally, in the future, try a search on this forum for such topics. It’s been covered before.

April 19, 2008 at 3:01 amGlad to be able to help Rick.
Uesed to be you could encode as flash and You Tube would put it up if it was encoded right. But they recently changed their procedure and everything goes through a re-encode or encode. So flash looks horrible being encoded twice. that’s when I was led to that link myself by another friend. It’s on my favorites list there.

April 22, 2008 at 3:18 amYoutube videos are all flash. Anything else you upload other than flash 320-240 gets re-encoded. Danny

April 22, 2008 at 3:32 amQuite true. But the empirical evidence seems to be that if you upload Flash, they will re-encode it. Better to follow the WMV line. However, try uploading both ways and see which is better, if you like. I am reasonably satisfied with going the WMV route. Not quite as good as Flash on my own web sites, but OK. Especially now that YouTube has upgraded the viewer.

April 22, 2008 at 6:51 pmHi Douglas,
I did not think that was the case. Check out this youtube link that shows how to upload a 740-480 flash file with total video converter and get it on youtube at that rez.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08NI4cy4zik
I did this and then saved it back off with keepVid and it was the same rez and file size as I uploaded. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Here’s a link for my youtube page where I have two of thos vids. https://www.youtube.com/user/ErnestDaniels Danny
