I use and like the Marantz PDM660. it records to a CF card and I’ve had no problems syncing it to my videos in Vegas.
Google for it because you can find some good deals out there. Some with free case and/or free mics.

Any software that comes pre-installed or with the computer or DVD burner you can be sure it’s either an old version or not the full version. It’s a teaser to get you to buy the full version.
Believe me you’re better off with Vegas and DVDA because they intergrate extremely well. You can render an MPEG-2 in Vegas especially for DVDA.
I get much better results by using the matched set than by using something like Roxio or Nero to burn my DVD’s.

You have two possible problems.
A. You said you got Norton! There’s problem #1. It’s a resource hog. Most I know that had Norton usually had to re-format their hard drive every year anyway just to “take out the trash”.B. You got only 1 hard drive. In video editing, tht’s a no-no. General rule is never store your video files on C drive. You realy need to get another large hard drive for your editing files.

It may be going through your camera that is causing the problem. I’ve never done that. I have a Canopus (now Grass Valley) ADVC-100 (now 110) connected to my computer via firewire. My external monitor is a 13″ Sony TV the composit cables are onnected to the OUT portion of the converter. I personally prefer the Canopus, but there are other analog digital converters out there.Going to my preview window in Vegas, quality setting to any of the best settings, (auto, half, full) I think gives you a ram preview which is like a temperorary render ‘on-he-fly’ so you should be looking at the same quality as if you rendered the project. Try undocking the preview window in Vegas and let it set by itself and see if that helps.
If I use any other preview setting than ‘best’ then I get a jumpy fuzzy preview which is a draft mode preview.

AFAIK Vegas does not capture as a proprietary format like Premiere or Avid or some of the others. So if capturing as a DV-AVI files you probably could open that file in another program.
I’ve never worked with the m2t files before so can’t really help you there. My suggestion would be to try it. Capture into Vegas then try to open in anoher program.
