Premiere wont use all CPU in either Core Duo or Xeons all the time. Premiere is not yet optimized for 4 cores found on “Dual Core Duo Xeons”. I suggest you get the Core Duo, its cheaper, until Premiere can utilize the Xeons.

You may want to increase contrast and saturation first. Then, copy your clip and place it on top (of your source clip). Apply a large fast blur effect on the lower clip (source clip) and the screen key filter to the top clip. That works for me and renders fast, too. Magic Bullet is a killer render.
    Hope that helps…

It’s a common practice to record atleast 30 secs of black/colorbars to any tape you plan to use. This is where most tape stretching/errors occurs so you may not want to put those precious videos on the first part of the tape ribbon.

I noticed that you don’t like to use punctuation–which can really help us understand your problem. Anyways, scale your source video to match your project settings: 720×480 for NTSC, 720×576 for PAL. What export setting do you use? AVI? Mpeg?

sounds to me like a corrupted Premiere installation. try reinstalling and scan for drive errors before you do so.

Thanx Steve, currently I do “solo” production work on PCs using Premiere. Its my bread and butter with coffee. I have also worked on an Avid Adrenaline for broadcast productions. However, there seem to be a lot of demand for Final Cut pro editors. Do you have personal experience using Final Cut Express in the Mac mini? How was it? Slow? I’m just targeting DV format, not HD. Thanx again…

You need to get the mainconcept mpeg pro plugin if you want a decent editing experience with Mpeg on premiere pro.

October 28, 2006 at 2:16 pm in reply to: Where does APP save its DVD files before burning??

Premiere saves it in your “project_folder>encoded files” folder. Whether you encode using the Export to DVD or Burn to DVD using the DVD Layout Menu, Premiere keeps the encoded files there. However, if you want to reuse the encoded files, you have to copy the files from that folder before you close the Export to DVD menu or the DVD Layout Menu as Premiere automatically deletes it.

It might be that your miniDV footage has a drop frame in the first place. Right click on your clip and select Properties.
Also, check if at 4000 frames, you have an empty timeline space or black. Sometimes, Premiere renders black with drop frames which is not a big deal.
    Hope that helps…
