mac mini
Posted by Alex Jusay on December 2, 2006 at 7:26 amHi guys! I want to learn FCP without spending too much. Can the Mac Mini (cheapest mac) core duo run FCP? Sorry if this was asked before. Please point me in the right direction. Thanx in advance!

December 2, 2006 at 2:50 pmIf you don’t want to spend to much and learn FCP, get yourself the Mac Mini and buy Final Cut Express. If you are serious about editing and making money, invest in an iMac, Mac Pro or Mac Bok Pro. You also have the option of buying used. If you go the CHEAP way, you are going to spend more money in the long run.
Good luck.

December 3, 2006 at 3:25 amThanx Steve, currently I do “solo” production work on PCs using Premiere. Its my bread and butter with coffee. I have also worked on an Avid Adrenaline for broadcast productions. However, there seem to be a lot of demand for Final Cut pro editors. Do you have personal experience using Final Cut Express in the Mac mini? How was it? Slow? I’m just targeting DV format, not HD. Thanx again…

December 8, 2006 at 4:06 pmI was running the entire Final Cut Studio on a G4 mac mini about a year ago. I was very impressed with how it ran. It was no Mac Pro, but if you are willing to wait a while for renders, it’s a great option for learning Final Cut. I was previously running Premiere Pro on a Pentium 4 3.2GHZ PC and the mini was almost as fast.
However, with the new intel chip, I’m sure the new mini really out does the G4 mini. Here is some food for thought. I work on a Dual 2.7 G5 w 6GB ram at work. for home use, I just bought a 20″ imac with a 256MB Gfx card and 2 GB ram and my imac is faster than my work computer. Intel is a good thing.
