There are a couple of issues here. First, what format is the video? pI3 (on any version of Windows) has better AVI support than WMV support I think, although the difference is probably in if you have the “use new method of loading AVIs” preference checked or not. If it’s not checked, you won’t be able to load DV AVIs, but I think you’ll get better performance when loading other AVI files. WMV always uses the “new” method of loading, which has support for more formats but is slower.

There could also be OpenGL issues when drawing the frame. The “do not use texture RAM for bg images” Preference is the one that controls this. Try it both checked and unchecked and see if it makes a difference in framerates when no emitter is present.

    Hope this helps.

April 20, 2012 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Copy/Paste Without Losing Emitter Postion/Angle?

Yes, you’re doing something wrong. If you select an emitter and use the “Edit” menu Copy and Paste (or keyboard shortcuts), it will duplicate the emitter entirely, including position keys and everything. If you r-click on the stage and select “paste”, it will position the emitter where you clicked, but should also retain all position keys.

The only way I know to get an emitter at the center of the screen with no position keys is to r-click on the graph window when position is selected in the hierarchy and “reset”.

April 11, 2012 at 2:55 pm in reply to: New Emitter Library Release Schedule

I keep pecking away at it every day, but preparation for NAB is cutting into the available time. I’ve finalized the library yesterday, so just need to upload and update the website files. It’s going to happen sometime in the next 6 hours. 🙂

April 11, 2012 at 2:24 pm in reply to: Emitter question for Tom or Alan

How did you reduce the size to fit your project? If you used the “zoom” parameter it should work fine. If you used “size” that’s the mistake. Size just changes the size of particles, while “zoom” changes size and velocity. Zoom is equivalent to “scale” in most apps, while “size” is just particle size.

    Hope that helps.

April 3, 2012 at 3:01 pm in reply to: Launch Delay

I thought of something else to try. Once pI3 does open, open the AutoUpdate dialog or Preferences and uncheck the “check for updates” option. I wonder if the delay is due to trying to contact the server?

Let me know if that works.

April 3, 2012 at 3:00 pm in reply to: No new emitter libraries?!?

It’s also partially my fault — in that other thread I mentioned that I’d be posting more info about emitter libraries, then didn’t. Sorry! I’ll do that in the next couple of days.

As Tom has already said, there will be a library released in the next few days (depending on how long it takes me to get Tom’s submitted library cleaned up and uploaded).

In the “about” screen, what’s the exact version? 3.0.4.something.

It still does this after rebooting?

Try turning off the “automatically check for updates” preference — that may be the problem too.

Lastly, try launching with caps lock on. Does the activation window show right away, or is that delayed too?

March 19, 2012 at 3:02 pm in reply to: How to use footage as emitter in piAE?

You want the “area emitter masks” option. This creates particles based on the alpha channel, but the particles can go anywhere after being created. Check the docs.

It sounds like you’ll need to put the particles on the top layer too.
