Do you see the emitter shape, position, etc. in the stage? If not, click the HUD button above the stage.

Hi Elvis! Do you have multiple monitors? That’s an issue for some people — disabling the second monitor often fixes it, and some have said that you can re-enable the second monitor again and things are fine.

Also, reboot after installing if you haven’t tried that.

This is the 2021 version, right? If none of that helps see if you can download the previous (2020.5) release to see if it does it too. If you can’t get that version anymore contact me directly.

Uninstall is always cleanest, but TBH I never uninstall and haven’t seen problems.

  • Is it every emitter or just a specific one?

Try the new Particle Illusion standalone app from BorisFX.

Future, yes. “Near”? We won’t release any new features until late this Fall.

I want to emphasize how limiting the workflow of adding your particle effects directly in Particle Illusion is. It’s MUCH more flexible and powerful to composite the PI-generated effects in your editing application, where you have access to transfer modes, color correction, glows, and loads of other features.

This tutorial shows how powerful this can be:

In the original pI3 days you could make the argument “I don’t have a sophisticated video editing app”, but now there are at least two good options that are completely free, and more that are quite inexpensive.

This ability is not present yet, but there is a trick you can do to load an image or possibly even a sequence.

In this tutorial at about the 8:00 mark it’s explained:

Not sure if I understand, but you can “Favorite” emitters and their names will display in yellow.

There are very helpful tutorials here:

You are feeling the same pain points as I am. To me the graph window is almost unusable — if I need exact values I just jump to the key frame then adjust the value as needed. That being said, graph window improvements is on the list.

pI3 had a “Replace Emitter” function, and we’re planning on adding it in PI, but it’s not there yet. I know your thought process because you looked for the next best thing: copy and paste of keyframes or something similar. Sadly that’s not possible yet either.

Be patient, we’re getting to all of this. There are so many details to implement, while adding new things too. If you want to get on the beta test for PI and the rest of BCC, send me an email.

No — PI doesn’t use the markers (and I’m not sure that we even have access to them).

December 9, 2019 at 2:03 pm in reply to: Is there a 64 bit ParticleView or comparable?

No there’s not. particleView was created as a tool to more easily browse and discover the vast pI3 emitter libraries. Since the new Particle Illusion has the search integrated as well as tagged emitters, larger thumbnails, grid view, etc. there’s no need for an external viewer.

If it’s the full-screen feature that is important to you, we should be able to make it so the existing PI preview window can go full screen (you can almost do it now but there are some frames still showing on a couple of the edges).

Note that you can run PI directly — you don’t need a host app running first.
