Launch Delay
Posted by Ra-ey Saleh on March 17, 2012 at 1:42 amHey Alan,
I’ve just re-installed pI onto my Win7 64bit system and it’s behaving very weirdly. It takes approx 45secs to launch (even when I run as Administrator) something that didn’t happen last time on the same spec system before. Now I’m wondering if I used an old different installer. It says 3.0.4 on it.
Any thoughts?Ra-ey

March 19, 2012 at 3:05 pmIn the “about” screen, what’s the exact version? 3.0.4.something.
It still does this after rebooting?
Try turning off the “automatically check for updates” preference — that may be the problem too.
Lastly, try launching with caps lock on. Does the activation window show right away, or is that delayed too?
Alan.

Doesn’t change the time it takes.Lastly, try launching with caps lock on. Does the activation window show right away, or is that delayed too?
Comes up instantly.Hope this helps. Very strange indeed.

April 3, 2012 at 3:01 pmI thought of something else to try. Once pI3 does open, open the AutoUpdate dialog or Preferences and uncheck the “check for updates” option. I wonder if the delay is due to trying to contact the server?
Let me know if that works.
Alan.

April 3, 2012 at 11:30 pmHey Alan,
Yeah, I tried that. To be honest, I’m having other issues with my system so I now believe it’s a problem with my computer and not pI.
Thanks for getting back to me though.Ra-ey

May 16, 2012 at 3:59 amHey Alan,
Just an update.
As I feared the issues I was having with my machine (including the slow launch of pI) was due to a bad install on the Win7 OS.
Re-installed (correctly selecting Custom instead of Upgrade – so it’s a new clean install, rather than a patch on Vista) and everything works well.Ra-ey
