You’re out of luck — the solution is Layer Offset, which is only available in 3.0.

Do a search on the forum archives for “tracking”… or “soccer”. There’s a good example there.

In theory you should be able to use any AE layer as the source (particle shape image) for a particle, although we haven’t tested this since it’s not working yet.

I’m pretty sure that there will be a vector-to-raster conversion in there though, so the output won’t be vector (I think).

Make sure that you check the “do not use texture RAM for bg images” option on the OpenGL preferences page in particleIllusion.

If that doesn’t help, then render the frames again in AE as a TGA or PNG image sequence — uncompressed AVI in pIllusion doesn’t work for everybody for some reason.

If you really want to use AVI, then download the free Huffy UV codec from the web and use that instead of uncompressed. It’s lossless.

Just select “PNG” as the output format, then check “save alpha”.

pI3 currently supports only square pixels.

Make sure you’re opening the properties dialog for a STAGE emitter, not a library emitter.

  • I think you’re not using the latest version of the renderer. Check the downloads page for the latest version. Here’s the direct link to the file:

Some emitters use special settings to determine how many particles are created.

    What emitter is it?

Never let anybody’s comments about what might not be a good thing to try (such as using a 300-frame movie as a particle shape image) stop you from trying it at least one time.

It may work fine for you, or even if it’s pretty slow at least you’re able to do it.

I’ve always wanted to find loopable image sequences of different things: birds flying, animals running, dolphins swimming, etc. I think it would be a great resource to have.

There are quite a few bubble emitters in the libraries already. Have you downloaded all of the libraries?
