You’re using the wrong feature. You’re using an area emitter mask, which is used to define where particles are created only. Does nothing to restrict the particles after they are created.

You need to look in the docs for the section on bg image transparency, particularly “use image as stencil”.

Do you have other apps that use OpenGL that you can run to see if it’s something pIllusion-related, or OpenGL related?

If you email me at wondertouch support and give me your user info (so I know you’re a registered owner) I may be able to help. I have a project scaling utlility.

Don’t use “Open” to add a movie — that’s for opening a particleIllusion project file.

The AVI Error is due to the specific format of the AVI — pIllusion doesn’t like too many formats tight now (especially DV AVI). So you’ll need to convert to an AVI format that it likes. I suggest DivX, xvid, or Huffy UV (all available as free downloads)

December 22, 2006 at 2:56 pm in reply to: Re-arranging emitter library?

It is technically possible to do this but…

    DO NOT DO IT!!

One huge library with 1800+ emitters would most likely cause big problems.

If you want to test this, do the following:

    1) Load any library, then “save library as” and give it a new name (“my big test”)

    2) Open the Library Manager by selecting “Manage”

    3) Select a library in the center list, then select the first folder in the right list and click the “<- Add" button. Repeat for each folder in the selected library. 4) Select another library in the center list and repeat. I'd suggest doing this for 5 libraries or so, then closing the manager. I don't suggest rearranging any emitters in the library yet. See what sort of performance issues you get. You may want to close pI3 then open it again. You can keep adding libraries to this test library, and see what starts to happen. Another thing to point out: when 3.5 is released later this Spring or Summer, it will have an entirely new library system that will essentially do away with libraries, and allow you to search and categorize however you want. No. You can use the Library Manager though.

Converting a DV AVI into a non-DV AVI “messed up” your PC?

An update will be available in January most likely.

If you put them in the “Emitter Libraries” folder then use the “quick load” library list (r-click in the library window) to load another library. You can also use “load library”, or click the bar that is between the library window and the preview window.

You can set the default project settings (including resolution and framerate) in the Preferences dialog.
