I Googled “dragonball particleIllusion” and found links to some videos on YouTube. I don’t know the show well enough to know which effects you’re talking about — if you can post a link to a video that shows what you want, I may be able to help.

Try the “run with software rendering” option in the Start – Programs – particleIllusion 3 menu.

It will be slower, but should work. If it does, then you’ve got a video driver issue, and need to get updated video drivers from your card manufacturer’s website.

Is the account you’re running under an admin account, or limited user account?

Are you using the latest version (3.0.3)?

If so, after importing an AVI, check if the “T” icon is turned on for that layer. If so, click it to toggle it off.

For the dark images (loading from image sequence), why do you say they’re darker? Are you viewing them in Photoshop and they’re lighter? If so, it’s because PS does gamma correction, while pIllusion does not.

Could be an OpenGL setting too. Make sure the “don’t use texture RAM for bg images” preference (OpenGL page of Preferences) is checked.

Are you using the latest version of the demo (3.0.3)?

If so, try the “run with software rendering” option in the Start – Programs – particleIllusion 3 demo – troubleshooting menu.

If that works, then you have a video driver issue, and need to download the latest drivers from NVidia’s website. If that still doesn’t work, try the “reset default settings” in the same troubleshooting menu.

  • Wow, a combustion screengrab! Haven’t seen combustion for a while.

Have you tried switching to software rendering?

Don’t really have other suggestions for combustion particles.

Try using the “active” graph to turn off emitters that are no longer in use.

Better yet, break your project into several shorter clips (if possible).

What about the “simple snow area 01” emitter in emitters_07_11 (nov 2007)?

January 24, 2008 at 11:50 pm in reply to: render problem, too big??

You’re probably using 3.0.3 (that’s the link I sent you), and it’s calling pIllusionRender to do the rendering since it’s bigger than what you can fit in a visible window. Right?

If so, open pIRender alone, click the “options” button, and toggle the “use hardware acceleration” checkbox.

    Then try your render again.

If it’s not opening pIRender, and if your desktop resolution is larger than 1750 pixels wide, then maximize particleIllusion before you start your render. It will first maximize the stage window to see if your render size will fit, and having pIllusion maximized gives it as much space as possible.

If pIRender is giving you problems and it’s set to use hardware acceleration, then you probably need to update your video drivers (from your card manufacturer’s website).

Click the “bg” icon in the layer window.
