have you tried looking at the position keyframe graph? access it by twirling down the triangle next to position… most likely it’s a speed issue… if you haven’t used the graphs before, try being in this view and try highlighting your keyframe and clicking it once so it becomes a circle, this will give you a default – you may need to manually adjust it.

i do a lot of motion graphics and compositing; and i generally use AE for the former, Combustion for the latter. If you’re looking into going into compositing – and specialising in it – I would go Shake hands down. It’s a great program; you’ll increase your employability as well. As much as i love AE – i don’t use it to composite. Sure it can pull a key etc – but it is definately more suited to motion graphics. The biggest thing for me is not being able to get splines on my mask so I can feather at each individual control point. That’s a must for rig/wire removal + rotoscoping.

  • i agree with Aharon. and i’d also say the weakest thing on your reel is your company logo build at the end, the second weakest your opening. i’d spend some more time on these – it’s your time to do whatever you want without clients and/or producers influencing you… and the end result says a lot about what you personally bring to your work.

there’s a fabulous plug in called trapcode which would solve your problem. it’s a particle system (works in 3d space) and you just feed one arrow into it, and it will spit out many arrows. you can then, by clicking a button, animate/change all its properties like speed of falling, whether it hits stuff at the bottom etc…

Have you got effects on some layers that you’ve ‘eyeballed’ off rather than actually deleting? When you render, the default setting is to turn these effects back on…

    yes sorry hard to explain…!

i am using transfer modes on my image layers – they are transfer moding onto a big big background way back in z space…

when i apply my light way back in z space shining towards camera – my images in screen mode simply disappear. they only appear when they don’t have a transfer mode…

does lux not work with casting light through images with transfer modes?

the wire removal tool in ae is very basic and i wouldn’t recommend it. you could do much better using traditional methods… there aren’t a lot of web resources for rig/wire removal because every shot is so specific that it’s near impossible to say This Will Work To Get Rid of Wires. the best thing to do is google search + visit forums/tips pages on sites like fxguide.com.

and practise. the only way to learn how to do complex broadcast standard rig/wire removals is to practise. generally – if you can see the clone mark/matte line/whatever – then you haven’t painted it right. simply ‘getting rid of it’ isn’t the industry practise, so things like AE wire removal will ‘get rid of the wire’ – but anything slightly complex and you can see the seams. good luck

    easiest thing to do is–

make a copy of the project you want to copy from

in your project window highlight the comp you want to copy

in file menu select – reduce project

this will mean your project will only comprise of your comp (and source footage of course)

    save this project

open your other project and import the comp only project into it (CNTRL I – just like you were importing footage)
