  • The Ki Pro Mini can be triggered via several methods when used in combination with the Sony PMW-F3. First, you can elect to use the Camera Data menu parameter and select “Sony F3.” (Keep in mind that the camera will also need to be correctly configured for this to work as expected.) When the Camera Data feature is used, the camera start/stop triggers transmitted as SDI ancillary data trigger the recording of the Ki Pro Mini; press record on the camera and the Ki Pro Mini should go into record. This setting essentially has the camera “drive” the Ki Pro Mini replacing the need for you to manually press the record button; in fact, the Ki Pro Mini will not respond to the record button being depressed if valid start/stop data is coming from the camera. With Camera Data enabled, the camera is essentially “in charge.”

Alternately, you could elect to use record run timecode on the camera and use the Arm Recording parameter set to “TC/REC KEY.” When you use this method, the Ki Pro Mini responds to the incrementing timecode value of the camera’s record run timecode. Note that this method is not viable if you are using freerun timecode as the value does not increment in starts and stops, but rather increments continuously.

If neither of the menu parameters noted were enabled, you could depress the record button manually on the Ki Pro Mini to produce recordings. Additionally, you could elect to use the web UI via the LAN connection to arm recordings.

If you have questions about configuring the Ki Pro Mini, please don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email between 9am and 5pm PST Monday through Friday.

  • You may want to update to driver version 10.4.2. The version 10.4.2 update improves audio functionality when used with OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.

You can find the latest Io XT driver here:

November 12, 2012 at 4:38 am in reply to: Ki Pro Rack as play out deck

Ki Pros and Ki Pro Racks are often used for film festivals:
    https://www.aja.com/en/articles/user_stories/74/
    And
    https://www.aja.com/en/articles/146/

You will need to use appropriately encoded audio/video QuickTime files with the Ki Pro products. Details about formatting files for playback have been provided in this forum previously.

As a general rule, QuickTime files should have the following basic attributes:
    – Name
    – Media Start
    – Media End
    – Duration
    – Reel

Additionally, the following guidelines are specific to media that is designated for use on the Ki Pro products:
    – Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Apple ProRes 422 (LT) or Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy) encoding is required
    – full raster video (1920×1080 or 1280×720 or 720×486 or 720×576) is required
    – the use of a supported frame rate (23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 50 or 59.94 – with certain frame rates specific to formats; 1080p 50 and 1080p 59.94 are not supported on the Ki Pro and Ki Pro Rack for example)
    – 24-bit, 48kHz dual mono or stereo channel grouped, 2 channel or 8 channel, Linear PCM audio is required
    – a valid, single timecode track is required
    – file names that don’t contain illegal values are required; standard character and number values without any characters “out of the norm” like: !, @, #, $, %, ^, &, *, (, ), -, +, _, =, etc.
    – clips must be placed in the “AJA” folder on the drive; files placed in the root directory of the Ki Pro Storage Module will not appear in the list on the front panel of the device

If you have additional questions, don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email for assistance.

September 22, 2012 at 1:07 am in reply to: No video on my monitor. What am I doing wrong?

Please consider contacting AJA Technical Support via phone or email, Monday through Friday, between 9am and 5pm PST if you have not already. Technical support is provided free of charge.

One of these items might possibly be your issue:
    – Does your monitor actually support true progressive video? If not, selecting a PsF (progressive segmented frame) output from the KONA may be required.
    – Apple ProRes 422 codecs are 10-bit; you appear to have an 8-bit video output selected. Consider using the 10-bit video output selection which is appropriate for Apple ProRes 422 codecs.

Again, please don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support for assistance.
