  • In order to help clarify the creation of QuickTime files for use with Ki Pro, here are some basic guidelines for your consideration.

    – For applications that can export QuickTime movie files (such as Final Cut Pro 7, Compressor, QuickTime 7 Pro, etc.), choose the appropriate Compressor type – Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy), Apple ProRes 422 (LT), Apple ProRes 422 or Apple ProRes 422 (HQ); for screenings, using Apple ProRes 422 or Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) for best quality would be recommended.

    – Set the frame rate for the exported material to match the source material/edit/timeline: 23.98, 24, 25 or 29.97 fps for 1080p material, 25 or 29.97 for 1080i material and 50 or 59.94 fps for 720p material.

    – Most QuickTime export tools will allow the user to define whether the material is interlaced or whether it is progressive. If you are in a 59.94Hz region, HD interlaced material will be top field first and SD interlaced material will be bottom field first. In a 50Hz region, HD and SD are both top field first if interlaced. If material is not interlaced, do not select any interlaced options and the material will be tagged as progressive.

    – Size is determined by pre-determined standards for NTSC, PAL and HD raster sizes. Select the one that is appropriate for your material. 1920×1080 for 1080 HD or 1280×720 for 720 HD or 720×486 for NTSC SD or 720×576 for PAL SD.

    – Sound Settings should be as follows:
    Format: Linear PCM
Channels: Stereo (L R) or 2 Discrete Channels (either is acceptable)
    Rate: 48.000 kHz
    Render Settings: Best
Linear PCM Settings, Sample size: 24 bits, Little Endian

    – Remember that to be visible to the AJA Ki Pro, an Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime file needs to be placed in the Ki Pro Storage Module folder named “AJA.”

If you have any additional technical questions about using files on the Ki Pro, please feel free to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email, Monday through Friday, between 9am and 5pm PST.

August 27, 2012 at 5:02 pm in reply to: Slaving time code from one KiPro to another

The Ki Pro LTC output does not provide output during EE or recording operations; the output is only for use during playback, as might be used for dubbing content to another device with matching timecode. For timecode to multiple Ki Pro units, the use of a timecode generator and a timecode distribution amplifier is recommended.

This information can be found in the Ki Pro operation manual under the “LTC Timecode Input And Output” section. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email for assistance.

August 23, 2012 at 4:12 pm in reply to: Beta Deck to KiPro capture?

It sounds like you are interested in performing a dub from your Betacam SP VTR to the Ki Pro. This should be possible if you connect the component output of the Betacam SP VTR to the Ki Pro component input and select component as the video input source in the CONFIG menu parameter of the Ki Pro. Additionally, you will want to connect the analog audio output from the Betacam SP VTR to the Ki Pro analog XLR inputs, set those inputs to line via the dip switch on the Ki Pro rear panel as well as select XLR as the audio input source in the CONFIG menu parameter of the Ki Pro. Finally, you will want to connect the LTC output of the Betacam SP VTR to the LTC input of the Ki Pro and select LTC as the TC input source in the CONFIG menu parameter of the Ki Pro.

If you need assistance configuring your Ki Pro, don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email.

August 18, 2012 at 2:12 am in reply to: New ioXT. No Joy.

Final Cut Pro X does not have a provision for “padding frames” and you seem to be trying to work with 720p 23.98 content, but produce a video output at 720p 59.94. You may want to consider the following method in order to produce a video output from Final Cut Pro X:
    1) Quit Final Cut Pro X if it is currently open.
    2) Open the AJA Control Panel application.
    3) Configure the Primary video format for 720p 23.98.
    4) Configure the Secondary video format for 1080PsF 23.98.
    5) Configure the SDI output being routed to your monitor to the Secondary format.
    6) Launch Final Cut Pro X.
    7) In the Final Cut Pro X>Window pulldown, be sure that “A/V Output” is checked.

If you need additional assistance, please feel free to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email.

August 18, 2012 at 1:55 am in reply to: aja tv hdmi output

The codecs you listed are indeed supported when the AJA Io XT is used with various non-linear editing applications from Apple, Adobe and Avid. Each of the non-linear editors may (or may not) have special codec handling capabilities. As you noted, you were able to obtain playback of XDCAM EX footage from Final Cut Pro 7 due to that application’s handling of the Long GOP MPEG 2 XDCAM EX codec. Again, the AJA TV application only supports I-frame codecs.

Please feel free to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email if you have additional questions.

The AJA TV application does not provide support for Long GOP MPEG2 formats such as HDV, XDCAM EX, or XDCAM HD. Additionally, AJA TV is not capable of H.264 video output. However, most I-frame codecs can be opened and the AJA TV application will automatically select a video output. If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email.

August 15, 2012 at 3:05 pm in reply to: KiPro clips listed in my order

Ki Pro clips are listed by creation date/time stamp. If you would like a selection of clips to play in the order you want to specify, simply use the Playlist feature of the Ki Pro. Playlists may be created via the web UI. For Playlist creation the use of Safari v5.x (or earlier versions) or the Firefox web browser is recommended; some issues have recently been experienced when using the latest version of Safari , v6, when creating Playlists. Information can be found in the user manual, but if you need additional assistance, don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email.

Also, the latest version of firmware for the Ki Pro is version 3.1 and it is available from the AJA website for download. If you need assistance updating your firmware, AJA Technical Support will be happy to assist you with that as well.
