AJA VTR Xchange was only designed to accept one video source at a time. Software provided by other companies can, in some cases, use the two inputs of the KONA 3 and KONA 3G cards. One example is QTAKE HD which can be used with a KONA 3 card to capture two independent video sources.

The original and earliest Varicam cameras from Panasonic provided a unique method for obtaining 50Hz material from within a 60Hz signal. At this time, the Ki Pro products do not support the extraction of 720p 50Hz material, such as 720p 25 fps, from within a 60Hz signal. The Ki Pro and Ki Pro Mini do, however, support the extraction of 720p 25 fps from within a 50Hz signal, 720p 23.98 fps from within a 59.94Hz signal and 720p 29.97 fps from within a 59.94Hz signal. In the future, AJA may provide support for the extraction of 720p 50Hz from within a 60Hz signal.

This is not something that has been reported before. Perhaps it has something to do with the files that were transferred to the Ki Pro but were created externally by some QuickTime-based application. You should consider contacting AJA Technical Support if you have not already to review this matter.

I think Brian was simply trying to emphasize that the product was designed for acquisition first and foremost. As he suggestions, it can be used for playback, but since that wasn’t what it was primarily designed for, you might consider visiting your local AJA reseller for a demo to see if it fits your particular needs.

Ki Pros are often used for video signage. The Ki Pro can be configured to play one clip or all of the clips on the Storage Module. Additionally, a loop playback feature is also available so that one clip or all of the clips can be looped. Playback from the device can be achieved using the front panel buttons or via web UI control. For detailed information, the Ki Pro operation manual is available from the AJA website:

The issue you are experiencing is likely because of the source; DVD players often carry encryption on their HDMI outputs.

Jason,
It would seem that there may have been an issue with an analog source that was feeding the Ki Pro. The Ki Pro accepts component, but not composite. So it’s possible that there was some issue with the red portion of the component signal.

If the video signal that fed the Ki Pro had some issue, then there isn’t much that can be done to resolve the issue once the QuickTime files have been produced.

This may simply be an issue with a setting used for your QuickTime export. In the product marketing area at AJA, a Ki Pro was tested with an Apple ProRes 422 PAL file exported from Final Cut Pro. The timecode value on the Ki Pro counted from 00 to 24 on the frame counter as expected with this file.

I would recommend contacting AJA Technical Support for assistance if you are not able to sort the matter out yourself.
