March 23, 2011 at 4:12 am in reply to: 3G capture plays back double speed in FCP

Considering this statement from your post, “As a test I also captured set to HD 29.97 fps 1080i and the video captured and played back fine,” then there is a possibility that this is what is being properly delivered to the AJA KONA 3G. 1080p 59.94 is a relatively rare video source compared to other formats.

If you need assistance, I would recommend contacting AJA Technical Support via phone or email.

March 21, 2011 at 11:33 pm in reply to: Using Kona LHe for DVCPro HD

I would suggest contacting AJA Technical Support for assistance. Based on your description it’s possible that the PCIe slot for the KONA LHe card is operating at lower than needed speed or the KONA LHe is not placed in the optimal slot for performance. A guide to PCIe slot placement can be found on the AJA website at:
    https://www.aja.com/support/kona/kona-system-configuration.php

Again, please don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support for assistance.

  • At this time, the AJA Ki Pro and the AJA Ki Pro Mini do not support 720p 60; they do support 720p 50 and 720p 59.94. Again, with an upcoming firmware upgrade, the products will support 720p 60.

March 20, 2011 at 3:15 am in reply to: Timecode issues

The configuration mentioned in the other thread isn’t recommended; a dedicated timecode generator and a timecode distribution amplifier are recommended to avoid any possible issues with looping timecode from device to device.

March 20, 2011 at 3:11 am in reply to: KONA 3G Dual Capture 1 card?

    Devin,
Yes, you can install two (or more) KONA cards in one Mac Pro. Typically, this functionality is accessed by third party softwares which have a need for the of multiple cards, but it can be used with some retail AJA software. However, AJA VTR Xchange can only access one AJA KONA card at a time.

For detailed information on using multiple AJA products in one Mac Pro, refer to the KONA 3G operation manual, page 88.

March 20, 2011 at 2:58 am in reply to: Timecode keeps running after Playback Stop

There is one possibility why an incrementing timecode value and black video output might appear after the end of a clip. The Ki Pro produces black and continuous timecode if the CONFIG menu parameter 35.2 9 Pin Remote is set to Remote. From page 49 of the Ki Pro operation manual:
“Ki Pro RS-422 device control under a single clip is designed so that the clip may be obtained in it’s entirety via non-linear capture. This is made possible because Ki Pro produces video black/silence prior to the first frame of video for the single clip and after the last frame of video for the single clip.”

So, even if the device was being operated via the front panel UI transport buttons, the user could still see this behavior if the menu selection was Remote. It might be worthwhile to check this CONFIG menu selection to see how it is configured.

If you need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email.

March 20, 2011 at 2:48 am in reply to: AJA Ki Pro Hard Drive Replacement

    Rodney,
The use of unauthorized drives inside of the Ki Pro Storage Module is not recommended or warrantied. We would strongly discourage such activity. The drives contained inside of the Ki Pro Storage Modules have been selected for their specific attributes and thoroughly tested for use with the device. If you wish to obtain a 500GB Storage Module, AJA does offer that capacity and such a Storage Module can be obtained from an authorized AJA reseller.

March 20, 2011 at 2:44 am in reply to: Timecode issues

    Mark,
We do not recommend looping LTC timecode from one Ki Pro to another during recording; the Ki Pro was designed to generate output LTC timecode during playback, but not necessarily during recordings.

A better approach to your particular workflow would be to consider using a timecode generator and a timecode distribution amplifier; by using a dedicated timecode generator and a timecode distribution amplifier to send signals to multiple recording devices, there is little chance that there will be delay or offset between timecode values on each of the devices.

If you have further questions or need assistance with this, feel free to contact AJA Technical Support by phone during regular business hours Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm PST or via email.

March 19, 2011 at 2:22 pm in reply to: Using Kona LHe for DVCPro HD

    Tom,
AJA provides DVCPRO HD Easy Setups for Final Cut Pro. It\’s possible you are filtering your Easy Setups by format or frame rate in the Easy Setup prompt, causing you to only see a select group of Easy Setups available to you. Or, during the AJA driver installation, you only chose Basic for Easy Setup installation and not any of the additional Easy Setups provided as optional installs. If this is the case, you can run the AJA driver installer again, deselect the driver and Basic Easy Setups and elect to install the Additional Easy Setups. Information regarding this can be found in the KONA operation manual.

If you need further assistance, you can contact AJA Technical Support, Monday through Friday during regular business hours 9am to 5pm PST.
