ki pro mini – Varicam F model – PAL world
Hi to Everyone!
Anybody has tested the Aja Ki Pro Mini with a Varicam F model?
I would have these questions.
1)I’m trying to understand if it works well with these settings:
System frequency: 60
– shooting at 720p50 for timeline 720p50 (no slomo)
– shooting at 720p25 for timeline 720p25
– shooting at 720p50 for timeline 720p25 (slomo 1/2 speed)
is the KPM able to handle the slomo inside directly?
does it recognize the flagged frams?2)Do you know about any sync problems or is it fine?
3)Is the KPM starting recording automatically when pressing the record button on the lens (of course with a tape in…)?

…ok, the point 3) is now clear thanks to Gary Adcock in the “KiPro Mini rec trigger and continuous record” discussion.
Any news about the point 1) and 2)?

The original and earliest Varicam cameras from Panasonic provided a unique method for obtaining 50Hz material from within a 60Hz signal. At this time, the Ki Pro products do not support the extraction of 720p 50Hz material, such as 720p 25 fps, from within a 60Hz signal. The Ki Pro and Ki Pro Mini do, however, support the extraction of 720p 25 fps from within a 50Hz signal, 720p 23.98 fps from within a 59.94Hz signal and 720p 29.97 fps from within a 59.94Hz signal. In the future, AJA may provide support for the extraction of 720p 50Hz from within a 60Hz signal.

I hope soon, a lot in Europe would appreciate it very much!
A question:
Is Ki pro mini able to record 720 60p with the system setting 60Hz (not 59,94), and memorize the information about the flagged frames?
In this case we could record 720p60 on the Ki Pro Mini with the Apple ProRres 422(HQ) mode and then do what we do today with the tapes, that is send all the 60 frames to the Aja Kona 3 that removes the duplicated frames ingesting the “good” 50 frames in the editing station.
Yes, the recorded material is still not redy to edit because the workflow would be pratically the same, but, waiting for the upgrade that we hope Aja will do, we could start having the benefit of the ProRes quality, much better than DVCPROHD, particularly in low light conditions.Thanks,

At this time, the AJA Ki Pro and the AJA Ki Pro Mini do not support 720p 60; they do support 720p 50 and 720p 59.94. Again, with an upcoming firmware upgrade, the products will support 720p 60.
