Jason, Jeremy and Brendan,
In order to help clarify the creation of QuickTime files with appropriate audio for use with Ki Pro, here are some basic guidelines for your consideration.

For the Final Cut Pro Sequence Settings, and within the General tab, the Audio Settings should be configured for:
Rate: 48 kHz
Depth: 24-bit
Config: Channel Grouped

For the Sequence Settings, and within the Audio Outputs tab, the Grouping should be set for Dual Mono.

For a QuickTime Movie output, select the Sequence with the in to out points, and then select File>Export>QuickTime Movie. The Save prompt will appear and it should be noted that the default is for the Setting selection to be Current Settings, Include Audio and Video and Make Movie Self-Contained with the checkbox selected. Select OK to save the file. Remember that to be visible to the AJA Ki Pro, an Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime file needs to be placed within the Ki Pro folder named “AJA.”

Using this method should produce a valid QuickTime movie file for use with the Ki Pro if the Sequence Settings are also appropriately configured. Remember that in addition to the audio settings noted, the video needs to be acceptable full-raster Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy), Apple ProRes 422 (LT), Apple ProRes 422 or Apple ProRes 422 (HQ).

Another QuickTime Movie output option from Final Cut Pro is to select the appropriate Sequence with in to out points, and then select File>Export>Using QuickTime Conversion.

When the prompt appears, the QuickTime Movie should be selected for Format. Click on the Options… button to configure. For the Video portion, select Settings…

Choose the appropriate Compression Type – Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy), Apple ProRes 422 (LT), Apple ProRes 422 or Apple ProRes 422 (HQ).

In the Motion area, set the frame rate to what is appropriate for your movie, such as 29.97 fps.

In the Compressor, if the material is interlaced (such as 1080i or SD), select the Interlaced checkbox. If you are in a 60Hz region, HD interlaced material will be Top field first for the pulldown selection and SD interlaced material will be Bottom field first. You can select OK for this section and move on to Size… from the Video settings.

Size is determined by your Sequence material and the Size selections provide pre-determined selections for NTSC, PAL and HD raster sizes within the list. Select the one that is appropriate for your material. You can select OK and move on to Sound settings.

Sound Settings should be as follows:
Format: Linear PCM
Channels: Stereo (L R) or 2 Discrete Channels (either is acceptable)
Rate: 48.000 kHz
Render Settings: Best
Linear PCM Settings, Sample size: 24 bits, Little Endian checkbox selected.
Once these selections are made, hit OK.

Hit OK once again in the Movie Settings prompt. You should be returned to the Save window. Save to the desired location. Again, remember that to be visible to the AJA Ki Pro, an Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime file needs to be placed in the Ki Pro folder named “AJA.”

This is actually incorrect. The KONA 3 Does in fact work with Premiere Pro CS5. We have intermittently seen the Audio issue you’re describing since your co-worker contacted our support department yesterday. We are working with manufacturer parters to get to the bottom of the issue but are not completely sure what is causing the issue just yet.

For each of you seeing this issue, please feel free to contact our support department at the number below. The more of you we hear from directly about this, the easier it will be to collect the information to narrow down the cause and find a workaround and/or fix.

Darren,
The AJA Io HD product does not require the use of any special codecs outside of those installed with Final Cut Studio. The AJA Io HD is primarily used to capture and work with the Apple ProRes 422 family of codecs which are 10-bit. If someone captures HD material with the AJA Io HD, they will probably provide you with Apple ProRes 422 files. If SD, then either Apple ProRes 422 or or Apple’s 10-bit Uncompressed codec. Again, either of these can be read by a system that has Final Cut Studio installed.

Hi Rich,

The latest versions of the KONA drivers will specifically work with the later versions of plugins, which are designed for and tested with CS5. For example, our AJA Mac Plugins for Adobe v. 7.5.1 are specifically designed for use with the version 7.5.1 KONA 3 driver. That was the last release of Plugins for CS4 and all subsequent releases of AJA Mac Plugins for Adobe have been designed for, and tested with CS5.

That being said, if you drop a line to our support department they may be able to help you identify issues that may be causing your problems. Be prepeared to tell them about the file types, resolutions, and framerates you’re using. Also, if you have other Adobe plugins installed for CS4, be sure to let them know. Being able to describe the steps you go through to reach the problem you’re describing will also help them to identify and troubleshoot the issue.

You can simply use the existing Apple-provided Easy Setup to create a basis for your own custom 720p Easy Setup. You can do this by first opening the Apple-provided Easy Setup, then going into the Final Cut Pro>Audio/Video Settings…>A/V Devices and change the Playback Output>Video selection to the the AJA 720p 59.94 8 Bit selection. Set the Playback Output>Audio selection to the AJA device as well. Click on the Summary Tab of the Audio/Video Settings window and select the Create Easy Setup… button at the bottom. Name and describe the new Easy Setup as you see fit, hit Create… and Save when prompted.

While AJA provides a very large amount of Easy Setups, it is difficult for us to supply every possible combination users might want. But, it’s possible to create your own as needed.

Michael,
The battery plate you provided the link for does not have any “through” holes on it. You will want a battery plate with holes through it so that you can use #4-48 screws to secure it to the Mini Mounting Plate. Note: battery plates may ship with screws sized differently than #4-48, but #4-48 screws will anchor a wide variety of battery plates to the Mini Mounting Plate.

Also worth noting, most of the battery plates with through holes don’t have a 4-pin XLR connector built in. Instead, you will need the battery plate and a 2-pin to 4-pin XLR adapter cable.
