720p 30?

Because, according to SMPTE, ITU, EBU and the NTSC, there’s no such thing as 720P30, only 720P60 (actually 59.94) and 720P50. IOW, the broadcast standards for 720P are frame rates of either 59.94 or 50 frames per second, not 29.97 or 25. Your broadcast monitor probably can’t even play 720 at those frame rates.

You can simply use the existing Apple-provided Easy Setup to create a basis for your own custom 720p Easy Setup. You can do this by first opening the Apple-provided Easy Setup, then going into the Final Cut Pro>Audio/Video Settings…>A/V Devices and change the Playback Output>Video selection to the the AJA 720p 59.94 8 Bit selection. Set the Playback Output>Audio selection to the AJA device as well. Click on the Summary Tab of the Audio/Video Settings window and select the Create Easy Setup… button at the bottom. Name and describe the new Easy Setup as you see fit, hit Create… and Save when prompted.

While AJA provides a very large amount of Easy Setups, it is difficult for us to supply every possible combination users might want. But, it’s possible to create your own as needed.

I was doing it bass ackwards by trying to change a Kona preset rather than adding the Kona to the Apple preset. Thanks!!!!!! I will try it tomorrow.

In all honesty, I’d use a Kona 720p23.98 VFR easy setup.

Duplicate it all and change 23.98 to 29.97 everywhere 23.98 is mentioned. Leave everything else the same.

I tried that but could’nt figure out what to set the Compressor drop down in the settings window – only 720 30 (29.97) is HDV not DVCPROHD or Uncompressed. That’s why adapting the Apple 720p 30 preset to add the AJA seems simpler. But I can be persuaded otherwise with compelling advice.

The name of the dvcpro hd codec is 720p60 but it’s just the name.
It can be used with 23.98, 29.97, or 59.94.

If you want to use dvcpro hd, use the dvcpro hd 720p60 compressor, but set the frame rate to 29.97.

That’s why using the kona 23.98 VFR easy setups are easy. Just have to change 23.98 to 29.97. All the rest of the settings (deck control, video output, et al.) stay the same. You would then reamme these duped settings as 720p29.97 VFR.

If you’d rather use prores, then start with a kona 720p23.98 VFR setting, duplicate and change to 29.97. You should be doing all of this in the “audio/video settings” pref window.
