DV is a lossy format and should not be used until the final video.
Quicktime with Animation compression, and set to best quality. You can also get smaller sizes with Qucktime PhotoJPEG, but there is some loss. I’d stick with animation compression. Be prepared to use up a bunch of hard drive space. You can always erase the extra files when you’re done.

you want to sound really geeky? How about asking Original TOS or new TOS – that’s right – I turned on my TV on Sunday night and saw an old episode of TOS with new effects! Apparently, Paramount had a lot of the effects re-done for the release of the series on DVD.
I thought I was having an Aneurysm when I saw it, because I was sure that my brain was processing what I was seeing all wrong. Did a search on line to find out what the heck was going on.
Hopefully, they’ll update some of the hairstyles and bad dialog in the next release…
Oh, BTW – check out wondertouch particleIllusion, they have tons of Transporter presets. It’s a separate program but it creates great effects and is not too expensive. It’s a great tool to have in your arsenal.

I think your problem is one of 2 things:
1 – you exported your video compressed, from APE, and as a result, the video keyframes are causing the jerkiness. Work uncompressed.
2 – You are using a different composition frame rate, then your footage frame rate. Select your footage in the project panel and look at the info box up top. Check what the frame rate is. Then go to Composition > Composition Settings, and set the frame rate to the same thing.

I think you might be able to do it with the puppet tool, but I don’t know of anyone who’s done it.
This *might* work (Or I could be horribly, HORRIBLY wrong):
Create the upper and lower lips as seperate elements. The lips should be in a separate comp from the face, and the comp should be the same resolution as your footage.
Create puppet points that correspond to the ones on your face.
Motion track each point separately.
Apply the track to each point. Don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t look good at first. Until each puppet point has tracking applied, it will be stretched in weird ways

Right – the whole point of a Ram Preview is to show you what the final render will look like. All doodads like guides and safe areas are disabled, so you must create actual layers in your comp to show this.
You can always set up a solid with masks and the stroke effect to create thin lines of a safe area.
