I need to emulate the Star Trek Transporter effect. A person stands in one place and lights shimmer over her vertically, and she disappears, to reappear somewhere else.

I am told that the original effect was generated by heavy top and bottom lights, with silver particles of some kind dropped within the “tube” of light.

Any suggestions on how to make something like this, without using silver particles, would be most appreciated.

Did you Google “after effects” and “transporter”?

Here’s one of the articles that came up after doing that:

… how about the Federation/Klingon/Romulan versions from those respective eras?

I’ll see your geekage and raise you … 😉

you want to sound really geeky? How about asking Original TOS or new TOS – that’s right – I turned on my TV on Sunday night and saw an old episode of TOS with new effects! Apparently, Paramount had a lot of the effects re-done for the release of the series on DVD.

I thought I was having an Aneurysm when I saw it, because I was sure that my brain was processing what I was seeing all wrong. Did a search on line to find out what the heck was going on.

Hopefully, they’ll update some of the hairstyles and bad dialog in the next release…

Oh, BTW – check out wondertouch particleIllusion, they have tons of Transporter presets. It’s a separate program but it creates great effects and is not too expensive. It’s a great tool to have in your arsenal.

    Hi,

maybe I can clear up some things. Just to mention it, I worked for Paramount for 7 years as a Star Trek Consultant;-)) Here is a link to a pretty nice transporter effect witch is between TOS and Next Gen.

    https://voir.mylenium.de/creation/ae_downloads/ae_down_particular.html

I used it myself for different projects. If you want to archive the ST movie (Original Crew) effect, play around with the audio and color effects. I did it some years ago and it looked well. If needed I look it up on archived CDs. Let me know.
The Klingon effect is different. But PLEASE – we are the good guys, stick to the Federation;-))
About the new DVDs, thank God that I don

it’s a total trash channel. They were UPN 9, and then UPN * and WB 11 became the CW 11, and this channel became My9: prime time soaps and other trash TV. I wouldn’t be surprised though if all networks running TOS were using the updated gfx though. Might be a paramount corporate thing where all of the original stuff is replaced so that you can only see the new stuff. Wouldn’t be the first time something like that happened.

Thanks — this article refers to the Cycore effects that come up AE 6.5. I have AE 7 Pro, and it doesn’t seem to have the same effects. Does anybody know where to get the CC Star Light effect?

Very funny discussion by the way. “I see your geekage and raise you”
