How about this-
Make a second layer that uses the shadow only option, place it below the original (that is “casting” the shadow) and then turn on its (the shadow layer’s) Preserve Underlying Transparency option so that it borrows it’s own opacity from layers below it. If no other layer is under it, it will be fully transparent, if a layer is under it it gets that layers level of opacity.
The Preserve Underlying Transparency option is an often overlooked feature. You can turn it on in the timeline’s “modes” pannel by checking off the little “T” box between the “mode” pulldown and “TrkMt” pulldown. Turn that on for the layer you are using as the shadow.

I may get some flack for saying this…
Since i gather you are not an animation team or animator (at leasy your question leads me to believe that), You might want to consider actually hiring someone to model and animate your logo for you.
While I often encourge people to learn things on their own, if it’s not your field, and you want to do something to impress your clients, go with someone who has some experience creating “Sexy” graphics like you probably want.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t learn to do this if you want to. Just know that it takes time to learn to create professional quality work – if it’s the first thing you’re clients see, you want them to KNOW you’ve got it together (even if you don’t).

It flushes the memory in AE which helps me when i am using heavy projects that also contain a lot of AE Text. When memory runs out, the text starts coming in as random letters. i tell AE to flush the cache every 15 frames. Also, sometimes AE runs out of memory during a render and crashes. This will keep that from happening.
The down side is that any effects that need to calculate based on previous frames, has to recalculate every time the memory is flushed, which can really slow things down.

It’s secret because if used improperly could bring about the downfall of all humanity!!!!!
OK, it could mess you up though if you use it incorrectly. It actually increases render times in many cases, and unless you find you need it, it may not be something you want to use.
Plus it makes us AE veterans feel cool when we can tell someone new about it, and look like we actually know what we’re talking about…

Utilizing large files off the network is never ideal. We always copy the files we need to the local machine.
2 major benefits:
1) Fast performance
2) If you back up you AE files tot he server, you end up with a double backup – All files on both machines. If one fails, you just need to relink the files. If you keep the same structure, it’s easy to do.
In my AE projects I use this Structure in a given projects folder:
AE_Proj
Images
Artwork
Video
Audio
3D_StuffBy doing this, AE files will always look locally for the files, rathert than on a particular drive.
You can get large harddrives fairly cheap, so it’s worth getting on (internor or external) for every machine.

That’s what we’ve been doing here all day, but we weren’t sure if this was still an issue from previous versions of AE. You do something for so long, and you never wonder if it changed and now you don’t have to (or at least, you never wonder enough to test it, but it’s in the back of your mind when you do it).

Since the CC effects come with AE, they are no longer selling them from CyCore – The do have a HD version of the plugin available at their site:
There may be plugin vendors still selling them, but i don’t know for sure.
