Motion Blur wShatter?
Posted by Ckeyes on August 23, 2005 at 5:46 pmHi,
Is there some way to have a motion blur on a layer that’s using Shatter?
I’m exploding some text that could really use it.I’ve tried everything I could think of but it won’t blur.
Thanks,
Carl

Try precomping it, and then, on the nested comp. apply the effect called CC Force Motion Blur – this is a cycore effect that comes with AE, non-educational versions. The CC effects are a seperate installer on the AE CD.
Anyway, I’ve been able to use this effect to get non-blurring effects like CC Page turn to have a blur, even though I don;t know if that’s it’s intended purpose.

August 23, 2005 at 6:23 pmCC Force Motion blur will do a good job simulating motion blur as Aharon mentions. There’s also re:vision effects reel smart motion blur plug in (about 99 bucks) that does a better job of simulating motion blur. Check out their site.

August 23, 2005 at 6:26 pmYou can also do this without precomping if you wish; just duplicate your shatter layer and set the shatter settings on one layer to “render layer” and the other to “render pieces”. That way you can apply effects seperately to the pieces after they break off from the original layer.

August 23, 2005 at 10:20 pmSince the CC effects come with AE, they are no longer selling them from CyCore – The do have a HD version of the plugin available at their site:
There may be plugin vendors still selling them, but i don’t know for sure.

August 23, 2005 at 10:27 pmI had the same problem a couple of months ago – the RE:Vison plugin worked best for me.
Thanks,

August 24, 2005 at 1:11 pmMight be worth rendering the sequence at 4 times the frame rate (100 or 120 fps) then reimporting it and turning on frame blending. A bit tedious but if nothing else works…

August 24, 2005 at 5:44 pmYou can also sometimes get away with using Radial Blur if your fragments are exploding outwards from a cerntral point, or Directional Blur if your fragments are moving in one direction.
