If you scale an obect with the model tool the object’s scale won’t change at all–it will remain at 1/1/1 while the object’s size will change in world units. If scale with the object tool it will change the scale and size in world units. If your scale is something other than 1/1/1 and you run reset system the scale will be reset back to 1/1/1, but the object’s size in world units will *not* change.

[Andy Stokes] “Thanks for your response. However I have already achieved this. What i’d like to do is to be able to project a colour image from a light onto objects in my scene. If I use the transparency channel I only get a b/w OR gobo effect from the light NOT a full colour image projected onto my objects.”

    You sure about that?

Yeah, it drives me crazy too. The only workaround I know of is to put your layout in two group windows instead of one big window, but that has its own set of problems.

Looks like Jannis missed a step there. You have to Ctrl + click to add points.

I think I see what you’re saying. Function>Reset System will normalize an object’s scale. Unfortunately I don’t know of any way to do the same for rotation. The usual workaround is to put the object in a null and rotate the null instead of the object.

  • I don’t know about Cinema, but I do know that a lot of ship design work is done with Rhino. If I was you I’d post the question to the Rhino newsgroup.

Put your texture in the the material’s transparency channel. If you want to see the light–like a projector in a dusty room–enable the light’s visibility>volumetric function in the light’s General tab.

You can put a protection tag on your object which will prevent transformations.

  • Render Settings>Options>(uncheck)Textures.

Switch to the object axis tool and move the axis?
