Sure, you would just use the object buffers as layer masks. Basically they’re just alphas for individual objects (or object groups).

[Noah Kadner] “I have this image that I want to have in 3 layers in Photoshop from C4D 10.5:

    1. The full cube with its reflection and AO on one layer.
    2. The disc on another with an area for the cube already cut out and transparent to see the floor.
    3. The complete floor on its own with nothing on it- no reflections nor hole where the cube will go.

I’ve been trying to figure this out forever- tried object buffers, multilayer files but to no avail. Best I get is one layer”

You need to render more than once, but 1 & 2 can be accomplished in one go. You just need object buffers (comp tags and object buffer passes) for 1 & 2. For one and two, you will use the buffers to precompose in AE or another compositor. For 3 you will have to render again without the cube.

You can’t do this directly, but what you can do is use a shader effector (with the bitmap loaded) to affect visibility of the clones, which has the same effect.

Sounds like an interpolated points problem. Try changing the interpolation type to subdivided.

I think around $50/hr. is about right for this sort of work, but it varies by location, i.e., big-city markets generally get more, small markets less.

My guess is that your light is using soft shadows, which can eat up a lot of memory — especially if it’s an omni light.

Instances don’t reduce memory consumption at render time, so it’s just like you had 108 lights (or whatever) in the scene.

Normals detection depends on the view options you have selected. By default normals tinting is turned on, so if you have all polygons selected and they’re all tinted the same color, you should be okay. You can also (in view properties) turn on normal lines, which are small lines that project from the center of polygon in the direction the normal is facing.

If you convert the plane to polygons you can restrict clones to a poly selection. In the alternative you could just clone onto a smaller plane and make the plane itself invisible.

You could use pyrocluster or you could map textures to planes inside the cube. You’d be better off with pyrocluster if it needs to be animated.

  • What you probably want to do is assign a time track to your object, which gives you a completely separate track for time.
