  • It’s possible, although it will take a while to render since you’ll need to use hundreds of thousands of hairs. To get the variation you’d probably want to layer up some noises controlling the hair material’s kink or frizz parameters.

    Example: 10224_carpet.c4d.zip

Generally you would use Xpresso for something like this. Setup can be a bit laborious but as you suggest, it can save time down the road.

In your case you may be able to use the Set Driver/Set Driven shortcut. So basically you would pick one object to control the others. Then you’d right-click on the parameter you want to change and select expression>set driver. Then multiselect all the objects that you want to be controlled, right click on the same parameter and choose expressions>set driven (either relative or absolute). That will create an Xpresso expression for each controlled object and when you change the master parameter all the other objects will also be changed.

Sounds like you’d want to use a Plain Effector with falloff. Turn on the Scale parameter, check the Uniform scale box, and set the value to 0.5.

  • Okay, that’s the time slider but I can’t tell much from the screen shot. What are those tags you have on the spline objects?

  • I’ve had the plugin for a long time and I like it a lot. It’s a big time saver if you use Rhino pretty often but I’m not sure I would say it’ the best if you’re talking about a one-off deal. What it does, basically, is import the Rhino render mesh so you don’t have to bother with converting the model to polys manually in Rhino. Because of that, however, you get a mesh that uses whatever settings you’ve assigned in Rhino>Preferences>Document Properties>Mesh.

So if it’s a single model you could avoid buying the plugin and just apply those same (or similar) settings using the Rhino>Mesh>From NURBS Object function. Then you would select the mesh object and use the Rhino export command, saving to .obj or .fbx format for Cinema.

  • Are you trying to move the keyframes in the time slider or in the Timeline?

  • Can you post a screen shot?

  • If you hold down Control and click the RMB with the live selection tool active you should get a list of objects that are in front of the cursor and you can select from that list. If you shift + RMB you can add to the selection by picking from the list.

If you’re 360 pano is in rectangular format with the width being twice the height, it will map perfectly the the default sky or sphere objects. Then it’s just a matter of placing a camera at the center of the sphere/sky and rotating the camera on its own axis.

The best you could do, in order to have the shadows and GI from the characters effect the room, would be to strip the room down to a bear minimum to receive the desired effects. So, you could possibly remove the textures, substitute lower-resolution geometry, etc.
