ahh yes – i forgot to say when a clip is selected .
Same question holds true though….if i edit a selected clip, can i tell FCP to selected the right hand product of the edit instead of the left?
I find i trim more from the ends of clips than i do the front and so to change this behaviour will save me a whole heap of button pushes and keystrokes.

working in the UK, i use a service called Adstream. I send a single advert to them (either on digibeta or via upload to ftp. They then send it on to every station you request at a set fee for each item sent.
The service i get is fantastic – they are quick and helpful and are so much more cost effective than sending tapes. We used to get charged

i’ll throw my hat in the ring as well. I’m having the exact same problem. Files sent from a colleague overseas used to all reconnect in a few steps, now i’m having to reconnect each one manually.
For all its great advances, i’ve never had so much trouble with FCP before the upgrade to 6.
Since the upgrade, i get dropped frames on playouts, error out of memory problems (on a very regular basis), random colour overlays on renders involving Motion files, and of course, i can’t reconnect more than one file at a time. Before 6 – my system was rock solid and never had any of these problems.
Oh yeah, Color cannot work in pal (ever since the 6.01 bug fix!)
and to think i had to pay for this!

you don’t say whether its a deck or a camera you are capturing from.
I would guess its a camera, which has put itself into sleep mode whilst you were away. Final Cut will lose its connection if this happens and as you say, you will have to restart the software to regain a connection.
I find its much more stable if i connect my Sony hdv camera before i switch FCP on. If i power it down, then i always need to re-initialise FCP before i can access the camera again.

it might be worth checking the manuals – i seem to remember reading in one of them that the zebra is set to appear at 90% – i may be wrong, but if your camera is set to zebra at a different value that could be the cause.
It would be much more accurate to use a waveform monitor/vectorscope to check your signal. The built in scope in FCP is ok, but if you have access to an external model even better.

i think i may have sorted it.
One thing i did do earlier today was digitize in some footage from an HDV camcorder, so used one of the easy setups to switch to that configuration. This was in a totally separate project, but it might have caused some odd behaviour – i have given up trying to understand how seemingly unrelated areas of software can affect others!
Anyway, i re-set the frame offset on the device control and it seems to have sorted itself. Thanks Jeremy.
The odd thing is its now a frame further odd than it used to be…but at least its laying back on the right frames.
As for kit – its a Kona 3 card i use. Its running the latest kona drivers, and no i’m not doing any hd-sd downconverting. I think you might be right about the doubled up first frame Mike….like you say – theres no way to tell if thats what it is when theres no movement between frames.
another one to chalk up to experience!
