i have the same as you – and would like to upgrade also. I have noticed that throughout the Cow the concensus is definitely in favour of the 1900XT. Its the prefered card for use with Color and Motion.

I had a fault on the breakout box of my Kona 3. The 2 RCA audio outs were causing an intermittent loss of signal, even though the sdi embedded audio out worked fine. The solution was having the breakout box replaced!
Not sure which output you are using, but its worth knowing about!

you might be able to open up a version from the autosave vault. This seems about the only way i have found to retrieve a sequence after this happens.
I have had this problem many times and once it happens there does not seem to be any way to rescue the sequence.
No one has – to my knowledge – been able to say what is causing this problem. Its certainly not uncommon though!

its not something i have done, but i remember (i think) seeing it mentioned in the manuals that you can do the conversion in Shake.

What you talkin’ a bowt , Sucka!! (sorry – could resist the Mister T reference!)
All of our ads are now shot on Hidef, even though the finished product is edited and transmitted using standard def. The images look superb.
I also use a Sony Z1E HDV camcorder to shoot the odd packshot if i’m not happy with the one that was shot in studio. I shoot this in HDV, import it into FCP via the firewire, then i export the material into 10bit uncompressed (which is my edit format of choice). The images hold up really well alongside the much more expensive full HD sourced material.
I would certainly shoot in HDV as this will give you more options further down the line. I don’t know what options are available on the camera you are getting but i would certainly recommend you try find out how to set the camera up properly. MIne looked average at best until i discovered an article in a magazine (Macvideo – issue 2 may 2006) which described how to set up the Z1 – now it looks fantastic!

I know i should explore it – but usual excuse of not enough time to check it out so tend to stick to old ways for sake of laziness.
i think i might have a few free seconds sometime next week, so i will make an effort!

i must admit i avoid compressor – it always takes far too long to do anything, and seems to hold up FCP at the same time!

in the end i manually tracked it as it was such a rush job.

i had based the 16 gigs on something i had read that said when using AE on an 8 core, you need to have an equal amount of ram available for each core, and i figured if the company is buying you caan never have too much ram!
I do tend to have multiple apps running FCP,AE, Shake, etc. I want to use Color but find the bugs introduced in the1.01 patch have made it unusable if you work in Pal.

hmmmm…useful, but not quite what i need.
I am probably inaccurate with my terminology. When i say i i “trim” i suppose i should have said lop off. My editing technique is probably a bit dated – i tend to make a cut, select the crap and hit delete. I want FCP to select the right hand bit of the edit and not the left, thereby letting me hit delete without having to reselect every single time.
I tried your method Jeremy, and found that it selects whichever side of the editpoint but it doesn’t actually select the clip.
Is there an equivalent to hitting A or S in Protools? That is really useful – they simply trim the clip either from the head or tail of the clip. One keystroke and the task is done. I have tried looking but i get lost under the mass of options in FCP.
