Final Cut “Forgets”
So I’m logging and capturing off a minidv tape. Going along, everying going fine, previews are working normally, just like normal then the phone rings. Talk for about 3 mins. Hang up, go back to my logging and capturing and now, Final Cut tells me the preview is disabled. I try rewinding, going forward, etc, triple checking all my settings. Nothing has changed. I close down log and capture and reopen, no preview. The only way to get preview back is to shut down FCP completely and reopen it.
What happened? Did Final Cut “forget” what it was doing before my phone call? -

you don’t say whether its a deck or a camera you are capturing from.
I would guess its a camera, which has put itself into sleep mode whilst you were away. Final Cut will lose its connection if this happens and as you say, you will have to restart the software to regain a connection.
I find its much more stable if i connect my Sony hdv camera before i switch FCP on. If i power it down, then i always need to re-initialise FCP before i can access the camera again.
