Yep, you got it. You have Vegas Studio, which costs (eg) $99 or something. For any scripting, you need to the pro version, which costs a whole lot more (am in UK so not sure of US price but eg $600).

can upgrade before end of Oct, which will get you pro version at major discount. link can be provided if necessary, but only have the pro version upgrade link to hand, rather than studio upgrade:

OR can look on B&H photovideo site for $99 version (complete) of Vegas 6, if they have any left. Is not current version (7) but will do perfectly well until you need to spend more $$$.

I/O points: place cursor at In point. Push ‘I’. Place cursor at out point. Push ‘O’. Off ya go.

can also drag along timeline to do same, esp at the top.

There is a button at the top that enables / disable Ripple editing. Has 3 settings:
– ripple Affected tracks
– ripple Affected tracks, busses, markers, regions
– ripple ALL at once.

try it out. no use me explaining it any further.

well, use volume envelopes to adjust the sound when it’s too loud – simple solution.

also, can pull down the top edge of an audio event to reduce all volume in that event.

others can point you in the right direction for free noise reduction

not sure i understand you correctly

regardless, are you familiar with ripple?

also, with rightclicking an event and choosing SELECT EVENTS TO END? (something like that)

also, you can highlight and move events up / down tracks using keypad 8 and 2?

also, using the SELECT cursor thing? (ie not the regular edit tool / arrow)? makes for easy selection of clips / events

If you are in 6.0x era Premiere, try opening the project in (ideally the current version of) Premiere and then export to AAF. Vegas 6 or 7 should open that AAF.

You may have to do some manual “cleaning” of the PPro project first. Don’t use any subclips in PPro (go back and replace with original master clips) and also don’t allow any “nesting” of PPro sequences. If there is any nesting — Vegas will import the clips into the project, but not give you anything on the timeline. Multiple sequences will come into Vegas as separately labeled layers.

I go to/from PPro and Vegas fairly regularly. I have one client that offlines in PPro and I then import to Vegas for online via AAF. And — I also offline in Vegas and AAF to PPro/Axio for uncompressed work.

done it, inclu upgrade US2 – no problems at all.

already had .net 2.0 so didn’t have to install it, but never had probs with .net before anyway.

just remember

1) can have BOTH versions on same machine

2) all v5 vegs that you open in v7, immediately Save As.. eg Project 36 v7 – once you save a veg in v7, can’t open it again in v5.

well, FWIW, I never burn with anything other than architect, UNLESS i need to add extra data files. Architect has always come up trumps for me. until this month, was using V5 and A2

on the sony forums yesterday, saw a star wars thread – about creating the star wars intro text

had a star field backdrop, completely convincing

now, here’s the point: was all done in vegas – no external pics etc. Can download the veg from the thread. created the stars using noise generator
