Not sure where to start for help so here goes…I have a project in vegas that I need to go to dvd. I have vegas 4 and dvd archetect 1.0 I haven’t done any work with dvd’s, only cd’s and going to tape…I think I read once that when you make a dvd in arch you shouldnt try to burn it to dvd using arch, but rather use something else like nero to burn to dvd? I have tried in arch and it says it prepared, then I go to burn and it says inproper media for drive. I have dvd-rw selected on burner, and the media is dvd-r . The same happens with nero if I select dvd-video files. If I try to burn with nero with data burn, it warns me about a 2 session burn and the 2nd session may not be read…then it trys to burn, and stops with error message. If I open the message it is about three pages long. Does this sound like a burner problem? It works fine with cd’s. Or am I doing something wrong in architech or nero or both? Frustrating. Thanks for any help.

well, FWIW, I never burn with anything other than architect, UNLESS i need to add extra data files. Architect has always come up trumps for me. until this month, was using V5 and A2

If you can get some more of the Nero error messages (verbatime) that would help. It may be your burner is a little old, or it may be that your media is bad.

Thanks for the help. As it turns out it was the media. I was using dvd – r and after using dvd + r to record to it worked fine! I have made copies before onto the dvd – before and never had a problem. I guess you can copy to them, but not burn to them? Anyway problem solved and I appreciate your input. Have a great weekend. Oh no! You may have something else wrong. I burn DVD-/+ R’s all the time directly from DVDA-2 and never had any problems. EXCEPT!! when I was using a Sony burner, (DRU-500A and DRU-540). Put them both in the garbage, went and got a Mad Dog (worked fine) then when I bought my new editing machine it came with HP Light scribe burner. Needless to say I’m sour on Sony stuff! 😉 ….and I don’t use RW’s.I’ve found they’re not reliable in my case.

I wonder if you don’t have a burner problem.

And I never use Nero. Had too many problems with them a few years ago. If I create it in Vegas5/DVDA-2, I burn it from DVDA-2. But I also use DVD Lab Pro and that came with a beautiful burning software Copy-to-DVD. Other than that my software of choice is NTI.

Until I got my Disk Maker’s 4-up duplicator at NAB last April I’d just go to DVDA, and use that to make my dupes.

It rarely is a +/- issue, it is more the quality of the media. There is a lot of garbage out there, and when you buy garbage media you will produce more coasters than you wish.
