Kona 3 all the way. The IO is great for a portable solution, HD on the road, but the card will give you more options plus the ability to go full uncompressed HD.

a slim chance in hell there. You can look into some Algolith plugins, resize an NTSC frame to HD, and get some temporal processing, sharpening, and noise reduction that may help. But if you can’t make it out in NTSC, you won’t be able to make it out 400% blown up.

Uncompressed is out of the question. DV50 is your best bet.
or you can capture 8bit UC to the internal sata and copy it over to firewire. But it won’t play back real time on that drive.

besides the daily sorenson 3 posting for WIP, sometimes we’ll prep an .img file and post that on the FTP. It takes someone with half-a-brain on the agency side to figure out how to turn that into a DVD – but you can get a full res, high quality burned DVD to the client in less than an hour. we started doing this 2 years ago, but it really requires a media savvy client.

You know, we’re a 6 seat FCP shop with 2 Avids.
I use FCP. But Avid, while more expensive, still has overall better tools. Especially for the effects-heavy edit.
Stop picking fights. FCP 6 is hardly a revolution.

Relax dude. Obviously this is a Final Cut forum – and all of us are here because we use and love and use Final Cut. And yeah, some of us have been wanting changes for a LONG TIME that we believe would make the workflow easier.
I may rant and bitch about Apple, but I’m still going to turn around and make good money with their products. I still defend them against Avid naysayers. We’re getting taken to dinner tonight from the most prominent maker of finishing tools and I know they’re going to try and push another quarter million dollar system on us – and I’m going to tell them why a FCP based mac is 1000x more efficient and user friendly. Doesn’t mean I don’t wish they’d make some improvements. Doesn’t mean I’m not excited about the path they’re going down.
But yeah, it’s a downer when you get excited about something and others start throwing rocks at it. I get you.

Totally. FCP is an editing program, not a fnished package. And at THAT price – FCP gives you more than anyone else. End of story.
