I know Walter – these are just my pipe dreams for a Final Cut Finish. It’s at heart an editing tool, not a finishing tool – which many of us press it into service for. Guess I’m just hoping for an easier, more itegrated solution to the problems you face when finishing in Final Cut.
Don’t get me wrong – I switched from Media Composer to Final Cut on version 3. And since then it’s replcaed every Avid station we own. I learned online skills on Flame 7 and Smoke 5 – but since then have moved all my finishes to a rigged up FCP station (with AE, Shake, Combustion, and Silhoette FX doign the heavy lifting.)
Again, don’t mean to rustle feathers. I love FCP and will fight to the death for Apple, but FCP 6 is just another upgrade, not a revolution.

yes, we have a smoke. yes, we have a flame. They are tens of thousands of dollars more than FCP – not including the hardware. And you get what you pay for.
Sorry to ruffle everyone’s feathers. I use FCP as a finishing tool more than an editor. It’s never been gear for this type of work, and I get frustrated. I really think they could integrate all these technologies, but maybe FCP would suddenly be TOO much for the editor.

I guess I’m aksing for too much…. Yes, we have Discreet Smoke and Flame in the house. Do you realize what kind of circles Smoke runs around FCP for finishing???
Guess that’s exactly why a Smoke license costs you the price of an import sports car.
I know. I know. If I want a finishing tool our of FCP, then they should make an offshoot. Much like Avid did.
Yes I know I’m asking for too much. But as somone who does online with FCP for high end projects, I guess I want more than the price of admission really can offer.
For the 2 years of nothing spectacular that FCP has offered up, FCP 6 really is a letdown. Admit it. Yes, we’ll still use it, but it’s still a little anemic.

Color? I get all excited about decent color tools in FCP6, only to find out it a “round trip” application. And then “round trip” to Motion for compositing tools.
Nothing has changed. Might as well stick to FCP 5, After Effects, and Combustion at this rate.
APPLE! WTF?!!? PLEASE PUT SERIOUS COLOR, BEZIER MASKS, AND TRACKING in your stupid program. We’re going to have to go back to Avid Symphony if you keep this stupid nonsense up. DESIGN SOFTWARE FOR PROFESSIONALS – NOT WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHERS!
You want to kill Avid? Then stop making 30 applications to handle things that should be BUILT IIN!!!!!

Most likely right. Besides, I don’t think anyone’s primary money making FCP station will get replaced by FCP 6.0 and Leopard 10.5.0 as soon as they’re released – gotta give it a few months to shake out all the bugs.

That was my 1st instinct – no leopard = no FCP 6. Or they’ll announce it but we’ll all have to wait till October. Either way we can still have fun with RED cameras and HD displays.

Try shutting down the computer and rebooting. This did the trick for me more than once…. sweating bullets the whole time
