    Hi,
I’ve been asked to capture some footage from some BetaSP tapes. The client would like to capture it at 10 bit Uncompressed. The footage is just talking heads, no green screen. So I just looked at the harddrive he left for me to capture to and it only has Firewire 400 and a USB2 port. So, I guess my question is if it’s even possible/practical to capture 8bit footage via FW400? I’ve got a feeling 10 bit is out of the question with this drive.
    Thanks,
    Brent

Uncompressed is out of the question. DV50 is your best bet.

or you can capture 8bit UC to the internal sata and copy it over to firewire. But it won’t play back real time on that drive.

    Thanks Charlie and Dave.
Good point on the external drive just being the transport drive. I’ll talk to him and find out what his playback plans are.
