Makes me wonder what the horizon is for a full-blown version 6. Remember when everyone was deadly certain that NAB 2006 was the year? Anyhow – nice to see some incrementals keeping FCP chugging along.

You’re gonna need to drop some cash on mad high-speed storage if you plan on cutting in HD. especially that 4:4:4 madness the SR is capable of.

You can’t until you have the footage in your hands. The pixels will be determined by 1) the lensing and range on the camera and 2) the video resolution you’re working at (including those pesky D1 frames). A 300′ screen could end up 20 pixels across if they shot it from way-way back.
However given a specific dimension, you can create a rectangle or square or whatever in those proportions. So 37′ by 17′ could equal 3700pixels x 1700pixels. And then hopefully they shoot it dead on.

Don’t know about your HDV problem specifically, but try 1) re-tensioning the tape 2) reading LTC instead of VITC

If it was shot on an HD camera, then the only way you make it 2.35 is with a letterbox.

the JVC can take an SDI signal, right? You’re not trying to feed HD to a SD only monitor? You’re sure you have the right BNC on the Decklink card (they’re not labelled, so it’s guesswork until you find the out and in).

hmmm… we had this problem with 5.0.4 and our XSAN…. but it would always reconnect properly if it did go “media offline” Upgrading our SAN software and getting to 5.1.1 everything settled down. I was told there were issues with FCP using Spotlight to keep track of clips but spotlight did not function properly on a SAN network.

Those are big Tiffs to be pulling off a FW400 drive – i bet its your bottleneck. Try rendering the whole timeline – no RT effects – and it will probably play fine.

yeah,422 uses a DB9 connector. should work fine I’d think.
