I’m editing a DV-NTSC Timeline. 720×480. Audio @ 48kHz. Some video B-Roll. Mostly comprised of tif images, fairly large (20-25 mb, 1000×1400 px). I imported the audio for narration from a CD @ 48kHz as an .aiff. Project file is about 5 mb. Project consists of approx. 350-400 tif photos all animated and composited in the timeline. Up to 7-9 Tracks of video. I have a Dual Proc. 2.3 Ghz G5, 2 gigs of Ram, Running the photos off a Firewire 400 Drive.

Playback from the timeline is extremley sluggish, only playing about 10 seconds before it stops and starts up again.

    What’s going on!?

    Thanks

Those are big Tiffs to be pulling off a FW400 drive – i bet its your bottleneck. Try rendering the whole timeline – no RT effects – and it will probably play fine.
