that’s what I’ve adapted to doing, but I’d rather just overwrite so when I go to iDVD or whatever there’s no room for confusion.

I’ve had an editor report this happened to him… I couldn’t replicate it…

Make sure permissions are all good where you’re saving
    what size is the project?
sometimes the Finder is slow to update Last Modified, give it a minute
Plenty of room on the save/autosave drive?

October 12, 2006 at 7:17 pm in reply to: PVM monitors vs Luma?

Sony seems to be having a terrible time lately… exploding batteries, a whole slew of personal electronics that are passed over by tech-savvy consumers, their stock has been slipping in Japan…

I’m stymied that they’d discontinue the mid-end CRT’s when they don’t have an alternative that’s 100% as good. reality check is that most of us are still doing 85% SD work. And practially everyone is editing SD for HD finishes so we don’t have to upgrade offline bays.

    Thanks for the warnings!

This is awfully cheap for a D5. In LA D5 is the de-facto mastering standard for HD commercials. Must have crusty peanut butter in the tape path….

Thanks Walter… I’ll look into the Panasonics. We have so many PVM’s in our old bays, and they keep cranking year-in and year-out.

There’s this whole current of ignorance out there about what’s high quality and what’s good-for-offline… They look at me stunned when I tell them a frame grab from Digibeta will only yield about a 1.5″ print in 300dpi…. and that it really will looks like massive crap when you try and make an 8×10 page ad out of it…

it’s still our job to teach clients (with a firm hand) that some shortcuts just don’t exist. Good – Cheap – Fast = pick two.

It doesn’t look bad, but I don’t know if the basic keyers in FCP will get good results.

Primatte would probably do the job in one fell swoop. You should probably open AE and Motion and play around with the keyers, read the help file that comes with them.

Yeah, just forget what QT says. I just opened a 29.97 clip @ 8bit that I just digitized… QT says 30.04 fps. there’s a bug somewhere.
