Does your footage play fine in Final Cut?

I’ve gotten strange reports from Quicktime Player on FPS…. I disregard it since everything is ship shape in FCP. I think it’s just buggy code.

the XSAN is simple a harddrive. You should ALWAYS copy the project file to your local HD before working on it. end of day, export an XML of the changes and update the master project before saving and copying to the SAN for safekeeping. it’s, unfortunately, not a real “shared” enviroment…. FCP hasn’t been coded for it (yet).

I’ve been using Export to Shake, and AE for a long time… But you’ve got to be good about naming clips and keeping track of them going into/out of FCP. You can usually just Export-> QT Movie (with self-contained turned off). Open that straight in AE and off you go.

Just recently got Silhouette roto & paint…. LIFESAVER. For those quick rotos and paint-outs it’s such a huge timesaver. It’s got great rotomask features, and a pretty good paint module.

The 8 point mask in FCP is absolute junk IMHO.

  • Yeah, you master the SD in anamorphic… and set the 16×9 flag in DVDSP to on.

That camera was not supported in 5.04. You need to go to 5.1, and if you shot 24F mode, you need to go to 5.1.2

Good luck… The only last thing I could possibly suggest is powering down the edit systems, and pulling the power cord to rest the PMU’s on them….

That’s bizzare… be sure to Post in XSAN forum too – there’s a lot of uber knowledgable people.

Are you using all Apple approved gear? Like a SANbox for your fibre switch? Does it have battery backup? Did the MDC(s) go down? You said you’re on Admin 1.4… but are all the boxes using Xsan 1.4 sofware, especially the MDC?

…even when we lose the entire SAN network for whatever reason… the edit machines don’t go down. But we stayed on 1.3 because it proved stable for us.

What brand of SAN are you using?

  • Open in QT, export new file as Self-contained?

    True that!

In our case I surmised that slightly different seek times caused the RAID instability. Once we removed the suspect drives, it worked perfect.
