Why use IDVD, iDVD gives you no control over the encoding of your video and therefor the results may not be as good as they could be.

Use compressor for beat control of the encoding, and then use DVD SP, and set the first play to your video track.

DVCam tapes will not work in a HDV camera

One of the most important thing about choosing a type of tape, is picking a bran d and sticking to it. Different brands of tape use different lubricants. Some are oil based, some are dry based. Mixing then can cause the tape heads in your camera to gum up, thus causing bigger problems. Even mixing different oil based tapes or different dry based tapes can potentially cause problems.

So pick a tape and stick to it.

What type of drive are you capturing to. Is it the main system drive. NEVER use the main system drive to capture to it has enough to do running the OS and software. If it is an external drive you are using make sure it is not USB. USB only lets bursts of data go through not a constant flow of data. NEVER use USB for editing video.

The software is just a tool, it is what you do with that tool that makes the difference. There are many other aspects of what makes a good editor besides his knowledge of the software.
