Applications MUST be written to use more then one processors. Most applications are built to only use one, a small number are built to use more.

It is not something you have control over.

You should also not be capturing to the internal system drive. It has enough to to do already running the OS and applications. You will get dropped frames.

What format of HD video was recorded onto the P2 Cards.

It is is possible that FCP 4.5 will not support the format of video that was recorded.

Personally I would not even try and run ANY version on FCP on a Mac Mini. The graphics card is vary limited and I I know that some applications will not even run with that graphics card(they may not even let you install them) Motion & Color for example.

If FCP will even install in the Mini, you are limited to only one firewire bus on the computer. Sure you can use a firewire hub, but any firewire device connected will still be sharing the same bus.

I used to work at a place the the owner/boss did not understand the problems this would cause, and so I was forced to use a computer with only one Firewire bus.

I would always be getting dropped frames, especially when laying back to tape. This is because the hard drive that the video was on had to share the same firewire bus as the deck and so from time to time the firewire bus would get overloaded and then I would get dropped frames.

You also do not want to use the internal drive to edit footage from. This drive already has to run the computers OS and any applications that are installed on it. Because it has enough to do already you will also get dropped frames, because you are giving that one drive way to much to do at one time.

Even the iMacs do only have one Firewore bus.

If you want to do video, especially using Final Cut you should look into a MacBook Pro, or a Mac Pro. With those you can ether add a separate bus for hard drives on the MacBook Pro or you an add separate hard drives internally on the Mac Pro.

Sounds like a odd process. it is much easier to ether export directly through compressor from FCP or pull the full sized video into compressor.

There is no need to actually letter box the video also. Make sure that in compressor you have it set to 16×9 or just use a preset that is 16×9. Then in DVD SP make sure you set the video track to 16×9. This was the DVD player will automatically display it as letter boxed on a 4×3 TV but on a wide screen TV it will fill up the whole screen.

1- HDV cameras & Decks are not capable of sending out a DVCPRO HD, so you cant capture DVCPRO HD from a HDV Tape via firewire.

2- With out an IO HD or a Kona Card you cant capture to PRORES, so if you want to convert the video to PRORES then you will want to use compressor

You can of course just edit the HDV footage in a PRORES timeline, doing this makes it so anything that needs rendering will be rendered in PRORES not in HDV.

In picking a workflow, I like to start from the end and work backward. Knowing where the video is headed you can then choose the beat bath to get it there. I might pick a slightly different workflow if I am only going for the web then if it will be going to DVD, and things might change a little more if I plan on the footage being shown in HD.

No offense but it douse not seem that you fully under stand the difference between HD DVD/BlueRay DVD & a regular standard definition DVD.

Fist ask yourself douse any one that you will be giving this video to have a HD DVD player or a BlueRay DVD player. If not then there is no use making a HD DVD or a BlueRay DVD.

Export using compressor and the DVD presets, and then pull those into DVD SP.

I never recommend iDVD because you do not want your DVD to look like the one, your 10 year old nephew just made of his friends skateboarding. This reflects poorly upon you and the video you give out.
