    Hello all,

Here’s a question. After viewing the 8core processors doing their thing in an activity monitor, it did not look like they were even trying to achieve maximum horsepower. Question here, is there a way to allocate more processing power to certain apps and are they reliable or even worth the shot?

    Let me know your thoughts.

    I am running a MacPro 8core, 8 gig RAM, 2 750 drives

    thanks!

Applications MUST be written to use more then one processors. Most applications are built to only use one, a small number are built to use more.

It is not something you have control over.

While it’s true that a program written to take advantage of more cores is best, it’s not a lost cause for the other applications. OSX does do a little bit of work to spread things out:

    https://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/technology/multicore.html

Notice in there that while bragging that the OS splits things up they still mention that they’re re-writing apps to be multi-core aware. So it’s still better to have the apps be aware, but it’s not like the other cores are going totally un-used when they aren’t.

But either way, Brett, there’s nothing you can do about it.

Word on the streets is that faster drives help with the bottleneck — think about it — if you’re increasing your processor speed 8 fold you’ll have to increase your read/write speed pretty substantially —
