Actually intel macs can boot from USB, I’ve even seen it done from a USB Flash Drive.
Nigel I think you need to better understand what exactly time machine does and how it differs from a clone.
A clone is exactly that a clone, same in every way. What time machine does is copy the user data and the applications onto the time machine hard drive it does not copy all the system files. The reason your computer was asking for the serial number was because the file that contains the serial number is kept in those system files that time machine does not copy.

Unfortunately we cannot say because we do not know what settings you exported the animation out as. All you gave us was frame size. Frame rate and codec are also a big part of the question.

No need to do that at all.
I am assuming that you still have the old system drive that you replaced with the new one. Boot from that drive and use carbon copy cloner to clone it to your new drive.

Im guessing you ran the install on top of your current system instead of doing an erase and install as recommended when using pro apps.

When ever I have had to do the same thing, I will bring the PPT file into Apples Keynote as it handles these things MUCH better then Power point.
In Keynote you change the slideshows aspect ratio to the proper video aspect ratio and export a video file of the presentation.

Some how the file that keeps that serial number was ether deleted or damaged.

I’m betting that you have all 3 machines using the same mobile me account. One feature of mobile is called back to my mac, if you don’t know about it Apples website talkes about it.
It’s probably only partialy working because some settings for back to my mac are probably not completly corect on one or more of the machines.

Put then in the time line, adjust the duration on one then right click/control click and choose copy. Select the rest of the images on the timeline and right click/control click and past attributes. In the little window that pops up select duration.

h.264 is NOT a editing codec, it is a delivery codec.
You need to convert the files to a suitable editing codec.
