Go with Pro Res, editing HDV codec is no fun at all. Regular Pro Res 422 will work perfectly.

I don’t know that other system (and I’m sure that MANY others on here don’t ether), could you please list the type of formats that you can export so we can say what the best option is.

NO USB is not good for video. USB works with bursts of data therefore it just cant handle the constant data rate that video requires.

A faster burst is still a bust.
Think of USB like a drinking fountain where somebody keeps pressing down and letting go of the button. Its still hard to fill a glass of water. all that USB 2 gives you over USB 1 is a bigger hole on the fountain it still does not stop the burst of water.

Create a empty project with all your names sequences and save it. When you want to start a new project simply open the blank project then SAVE AS a new one.

After my move to the new FCS I have experienced nothing but faster render times of motion files.

I have not noticed any missing content, as far as I can tell motion has it all.
As for opining a livetype project, you should be able to open those in motion.

There is really no need for live type it have been fully integrated with Motion and that allows you to do a LOT more.
Keep in mind that it is best NOT to install FCS3 as an upgrade. it is best to erase the system drive, install a clean OS and then Install FCS clean. Or at lest fully remove FCS using FCP remover and then install the new FCS. (A full erase of the drive or a removal of the old FCS will result in live type not being there at all when you install the new FCS)

I believe that it is edit to tape that is not possible with HDV.
When printing to tape HDV must conform, and that will take a LONG time.
