I would go with a AppleTV over blue ray, but I would go with a mac mini over an AppleTV. You can do so much more, Hulu Desktop, EyeTV Recording, etc etc.

The best time laps technique is actialy to not aquire via video. The best way to do time laps is with a DSLR camera on manual settings with a timer remote attached. The timer remote let’s you set how often you want a picture taken for example once a minute or once every 30 seconds. You then take the picture files and you combine them into an image sequence on the computer.

Daisy chaining a camera off of a hard drive can be vary problimatic. I recomend ether using a hard drive based camera or switching to a drive that conects via gigabit Ethernet if you plan on using an iMac for video editing.

I suggest the same thing. Those who work at the genius bar are certified in the OS so they are most likely correct.

If it ends up looking stretched it is because the aspect ratio of the TV itself is not set right, and unfortunately you will have no control over that.
Every time I visit my parents I have to correct the aspect ratio setting on their TV, so many people just don’t understand it.

And that would be the problem. NTFS is a windows format. A mac by itself can read files and copy then off of a NTFS drive but it CANNOT wright a file onto a NTFS drive. There are 3rd party programs that will allow a mac to wright a file to a NTFS drive, but a mac alone cannot do it.
Did you install some software that gave you the ability to wright files to a NTFS drive? If you did perhaps there is something wrong with that software.

Not sure YOU understand it.
Canons SLR department and Video camera departments are DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS. Im personally betting with time that they till do some merging and we will some cameras aimed toward video people what will use the SLR lenses.
I have to agree with Brian to me the end result is what matters most, and if I can get an amazing video image then why not look into how the device fits into the type of work you do.
For the video work I do a Canon DSLR would be just fine, for what you do it my not be fine, not everybody is doing the same type of video work you are so why are you knocking the type of equipment others choose to use.
In the end it is the person that does the art not the camera. I would take video shot on a flip camera by a talented experienced cinematographer any day then take footage from a red camera shot by somebody who has no idea what they are doing.

If you have done a complete erase and install and updated everything then it is NOT a software issue that we will be able to help you with, it must be a hardware issue.
Make an appointment at the genius bar at your local apple store and then then look at it and repair it.

To be honist I don’t think that idea wi work well if ar all.
Several things to consider.
The data speed of USB slows down the more USB devices are plugged in so if somebody has a lot of devices conected there computer may not be able to sustain high enuff data rates via USB to play the video smoothly.
The previus potential issue will be even worse if the computer only has USB 1.0
There are numerus DVD player applications on windows and who knows if all of them will play DVD files from a drive instead of a DVD.
A flash drive will NOT be recognized as a DVD so even if the computer is set to autoplay DVDs it will not autoplay.
Again with all the different DVD player software out there I don’t think you could get a script to talk with all of them.
In addition DVDs all much cheeper then flash drives.
Sorry but I don’t think the idea is that fesable.
